Miracle Fruit

Post by it290 »

Just read about this recently. It's supposed to make sour things taste deliciously sweet. Has anyone tried it?

Weird.

I'll have to see if I can get my friend in Japan to get a hold of some and send it my way. I'm always up for trying new things.

If it only affects the sensation of taste, I'm not sure it would be a good idea to use this just for the sake of eating a lemon or something. While it may taste sweet in the mouth, a high acidity could cause you to feel awful somewhere else.

I heard an amazing documentary on this on a UK radio station the other day. When the guy first started to promote the stuff, the Sugar industry heavies muscled him out of business. Christ knows how he'll do it this time.

I want to try it with vinegar...

Unfortunately it's banned from importation to the states. Sounds fun though.

Im in agreeance wit choo.

Other than spadgy being able to now fulfill his dream of downing a bottle of bitter vinegar  & I guess the rest of us downing our meds minus a spoonful of sugar what is the practical daily application gonna be?

I can now eat &/or drink something bitter!?

Exactly what the documentary I heard was about. The guy who invented it got followed and spied on and threatened apparently.

There was an article about those in the New York Times not too long ago. Apparently there's some guy in Ney York who has "flavor triping" parties where everyone gets a berry then just eats a bunch of different foods to see what happens. He also sells them on a website, but they're really expensive, something like $2 each.

practical jokery, mos def.

Those pills look a little like typical painkillers. Explain away the difference by saying "You don't have to swallow these, they're like the Zantac that melts on your tongue" and...?

I know at least ONE person who'd fall for it, but I'm too cheap to pay $2 per sucker.

I see, after reading the directions , that there are a few applications besides just giving the ability to eat shit & like it...

Sorry I didn't post it in the first place, it took me a little bit to dig it up.
Here's the NYT article.

That's not really capitalism, as it is corporatism. Sugar costs more in America than it does elsewhere in the world because of price supports.

It appears you can buy packs of 10 tablets on ebay for about $15 shipped. Think I'll get a couple and have a little party :D

Supposedly the tabs aren't as effective as the fresh fruits.
