Is sealed games collecting retarded?

We should just sticky this so spammers with intent of formulating a new and overpriced market (which is unreliable due to the ease of access to factory packaging) will think twice about posting here again. And yes, I'm pre-empting the vote there too.

I recall the time we got one of our strait edge mates to drink beer. He is a nicely balanced human being now.

Y'know, I can see having a couple of sealed games, childhood favorites or something like that, just as display pieces, sorta like how you might have that Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card on your mantle or whatever. But collecting nothing but sealed games is quite silly, yes.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
I have a couple of comics which i intend to frame for one of my rooms

heres one. I just love McFarlins style
there not rare and definitely not some crazy grade system on them selaed in plastic. just pretty

It's not stupid. It's collecting, and everything that can be collected must abide to strict rules. Like collecting corked beer bottles and such.
Even though I'd never collect sealed games, the fanboyism of this poll is frankly appalling.

But I've got to ask, how new a collecting fad is 'sealed game collecting'?Fenrir wrote: Even though I'd never collect sealed games, the fanboyism of this poll is frankly appalling.
I really don't remember hearing about it a few years ago. There's a good possibility that the entire thing has been driven by people attempting to build a new, ridiculously overpriced trading market. The first super expensive sealed games probably began on Ebay, and grew into a hobby of making money for those with access to factories with plastic cellophane machines - in which case the fanboys are correct and justified in ridiculing such a pointless pursuit.
I reckon.

I have a few sealed games, or "dust collectors", if you will. They're sealed, but only because I have other methods of playing them. If that wasn't possible, they'd be opened by now.
It's worth buying them sealed if they're not too expensive, since people have varying definitions of "mint", "good", and "used" conditions. The quality of sealed games can rarely be argued. If it's for collecting, that's one thing, but others may want peace of mind or perhaps they just want their favorite game in flawless condition.
However, I wouldn't actively seek out sealed games from the 90's, because there's next to know way of me knowing if they've been used, then sealed again. If I bought one, I'd be curious to know whether the game is actually in there and it'd end up stressing me out.
All in all, I don't think video games are a smart investment. This hit me awhile ago, when I couldn't find a copy of Halo 2 in my area, only the limited edition. Quite frankly, it sounds like a hobby for rich kids. I don't actively play my games these days, but at least they're accessible if I wish to do so.

I agree with the argument that 'collecting is collecting' etc. It's fair comment. I think that there's just something that really irks gamers about 'sealed game collecting' because it seems like a terrible waste.
It also seems like a terrible marketing ploy too, but that's another story.
What happens if you open all your sealed games up one day and there's a little lump of blank plastic where your cart is supposed to be, or a blank CD-R in the box - all because some bright spark took the boxes to a factory and flogged the unboxed contents on ebay. A sealed game collecting forum would be a wonderful place to operate such a scheme too.
Utter stupidity. Buy it, open it, play it, enjoy it, keep it mint, store it in your collection. Game Over.
