I finally was able to check out this little kick-ass South Korean produced sci-fi film by the name of Natural City circa 2003 with English subtitles. It clocks in at an hour and fifty-two minutes long -- a respectable amount of time, especially for a sci-fi film. ^_~
It has an interesting blend of The Matrix, Blade Runner (with the usual Police Spinner rip-off & huge spaceships touting visiting the "Muyoga" planet for your vacation needs in lieu of Visit the Off-World Colonies rip-off taken from BR), Ghost In The Shell (with it's "Dolls" cyborgs that are on par with the "sex slave" type cyborgs/androids of world featured in the GiTS universe). Natural City takes place in 2080 A.D. on a futuristic Earth with humans and cyborgs co-existing together. The cyborgs have a limited lifespan of three human years (again, this is so similar to the four years that the Replicants have with their four year lifespan).
Upon it's eventual conclusion, both the main character and his cyborg companion/lover part ways...guess it wasn't meant to be, was it? ^_~
I like the lavish and high-end production values that went into making this particular sci-fi film, let alone from South Korea of all places...
The pre-conceptual drawings that set up the overall aesthetics and basis for Natural City shown during the ending credits seems like that it would have fared quite well as an anime or CGI film had the producers gone down that route... ^_~

The cyborg love story bit was far, far more interesting than the military/action theme of the main part of the movie. I feel that it would have been far better overall had they just focused the movie entirely on that, as the general atmosphere and setting was very well done, but the action thrust really brought it down IMO.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

I'd have to agree that by focusing on the human/cyborg love story portion and it's painful conclusion of saying goodbye due to the three year lifespan is almost up, this is one segment/concept that was not explored at all n the classic 1982 Blade Runner sci-fi film at all with the Blade Runner, Richard Deckard, and Rachel Tyrell replicant characters... ^_~it290 wrote:The cyborg love story bit was far, far more interesting than the military/action theme of the main part of the movie. The Tyrell Corportion's motto: More Human than Human...
Of course, Natural City really can't compare to the classic storyline that is Blade Runner, the film version that is...
