In Marie Arana's novel, Cellophane, a rural industrialist introduces his acquaintances to a gossamer greeny substance. The wonder is tangible. But what touches us?

I'm still waiting for the OP to extol the virtues of this sealed game fetish. Just the thought of having a load of sealed games lying around is infuriating. If you would OP, what is the appeal?

jpj wrote:ed - hardcore collecting of *anything* is not a question of logic. i used to have a ££££ collection of japanese neo geo aes stuff, but i had a change of heart a couple of years back. i *do* understand why people collect hard-to-find items for whatever their taste is, but i probably shouldn't talk about it any further because i don't want to offend anyone :(

you also shouldn't assume that just because someone has game X sealed, that they don't also have a regular copy they play on. you guys are painting them as people who only buy stuff sealed, when in reality most hardcore collectors *re* buy their favourite games in new condition. it really isn't a case of being a "non" gamer :? is it really so wrong to want copies of your favourite games in pristine condition? like a historical artifact or something  that said, there are some rather aimless collections on there......

first of all thanks for bumping my thread.
But i generally prefer a serious discussion. Please try to use some arguments in your posts and not some mindless posts ...

I don't see a point in keeping games sealed. All your doing is making it so that someone that would REALLY like to play that game cannot, while it collects dust on a mantle serving only to make bunch of nerds on the internet (OK, scratch that, a very small number of nerds on the internet) think you're "1337" during your limited time on this rock.

Collecting sealed games is lame. This is why I opened my sealed Astra Superstars, Crows: The Battle Action, Hyper Duel, and whatever other sealed games have come my way.

Games were made to be played, not displayed.

I don't know about you, but my childhood memories involve playing opened games, and I satisfy my nostalgia by reliving those very memories.

His parents beat him if he played games, so he just stared at the case.

I just can't collect sealed games. Its like marrying Jessica Alba at the ripe age of 15 and keeping her a virgin.. Its not happening.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

I imagine he and his ilk got beaten up a lot when they were kids. Probably still do.

Nostalgia for the days when you couldn't afford to buy games and had to look at them sealed on a store shelf? This isn't any different.

it's more like marrying jessica alba, whilst cryogenically freezing her twin sister.

Real question for Denvan: What kind of wrapping do you use to protect the wrapping?

Since that's obviously the part that really matters, wouldn't it be much easier to throw those bulky games out and just collect the valuable shrinkwraps/cellophane bags? That would make storing much easier.

 http://www.effectuality.com/

I have a few sealed games. The thing is- when I can- I play a bunch. I think when you have more sealed games than games you play- that's when it's bad thing and a waste of money. If I'm not going to use 'it', I'll pass it on to someone who will (or at least get more enjoyment out of it that I will having it sit tucked away in a box).

If I like the game enough- I might get an extra one to tuck away for awhile. My reasoning behind it is- if I like it enough- I'd love a backup of the package should something happen some day to the one I play.

Holding on to a sealed Chrono Trigger for nostalgia's sake isn't a bad thing in itself. The part I can't understand is having a whole, complete sealed game collection. Seriously- where's the fun in having a sealed Fifa 96 or Madden 200015? From what I see on the internet- the 'bragging rights' of having a sealed collection eventually gets old- and from what I've seen- people eventually get out of it.

haha, I stuck a bunch of these along the top of the display of my laptop monitor, since there's a bit of a border between the actual screen and the case edge.

Like I said in the other thread, I love having sealed copies of games that I love or deem worthy of owning sealed. I DO want have a playing copy as well though.

Got multiple Border Down (LE) copies and thus some are sealed. Same with DDPDOJ, and actually every DC shmup in exitence (even owning 3 copies of Last Hope - 2 LE's which are sealed).

I do want to play the game and always open 1 copy. If I like it though the rest remains in my cabinet and stays sealed.
