Radio Control Cars!

Post by undamned »

To keep from destroying the R2-D2 thread, I thought I'd open up a separate discussion.

Basically, Team Associated craps all over whatever you have :P

I own:

RC-10 (practically indestructible and will eat your face with a good modified motor)

RC-10T (based on the above with a better transmission)

Tamiya Blackfoot (piece of crap ABS plastic R/C model. Tamiya made their mark in the industry with cool model designs, but performance/durability suffered greatly. To truly see your Tamiya model perform you basically end up replacing EVERYTHING with aftermarket parts).

It seems for some reason, most American hobby shops just don't sell/service Kyosho R/C stuff...why is that? Kyosho's parent company based in Japan finally setup a USA distribution center in Southern California last year to ramp up sales and gain a foothold for the USA R/C hobby market...

I've always had an affinity towards Kyosho even though it really wasn't widely distributed in the USA back in the late 1980's...you might recall the Kyosho Ultima that set the stage for some serious 2WD off-road competition between the original RC-10...who's gonna win in that particular showdown? ^_~

I was surprised to see Japanese hobby shops in Akihabara selling the world-famous Radio Control Car Action magazine in it's American English language format...

I have yet to see Team Associated make a lean and mean competitor to the Kyosho Mini-Z cars lineup...those little speed demons are wicked fast with the right modded motor installed. ^_~

I've been running a 5B RTR and just recently finished a solid build on an SS. Gas craps all over nitro- and brushless setups are starting to lately as well :)

But yeah- Kyosho's are nice- just wicked hard to find or $$$$.

My brother used to have a rc-10 (t I think, don't remember) . There aren't many tracks nearby here so we never raced it much, but it was a blast to screw around with in the field behind our house.

Should be interesting to see what Kyosho has in store for it's slick 1/43 scale D-Nano lineup of minaturized R/C cars -- they're even smaller than the Mini-Z cars... ^_~

Kyosho partnered with Taito for it's R/C de Go! Taito G-Card game release complete with cool R/C pistol grip type of controller...

Even R/C cars from Yokomo are pricey...

For undamned,

The rivalry between Team Associated and Kyosho is still on-going...don't dismiss the fact that the Ultima RB5 can hold it's own against what TA has to offer. ^_~

I've been so away from the industry that for all I know TA doesn't make stuff anymore :P

It's not just those two companies. There's also Traxxas, Team Losi, and some others.

I remember drooling over the prototype 4wd Yokomo buggy w/ double deck graphite chassis featured in RC Car Action... ah memories.

For Bloodflowers,

Wow, that is one tricked-out chassis for a 4WD belt-driven car...isn't it Tamiya produced?

Yup. That's almost 100% Tamiya parts. It's not that they don't make good things, but you have to go looking for them (Japan..)

Those brushless motors coupled with a 4-cell LiPo battery pack + special LiPo charger setup are insanely fast...will set one back at least two or three hundred bucks (or even more) quite easily. ^_~
