Fire Shark Game Genie region switch code

Post by Bloodreign »

MJGT-AR8N

A friend of mine made this code at my request, I couldn't find the damned thing on the internet otherwise, seems to me the Japanese version of Fire Shark is harder by a smidgen (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Now you can stare at the Toaplan logo instead of the Dream Works logo, as the Japanese version is inside the US version, but is only accessible via this Game Genie code as far as I know (not counting region changing hardware).

Enjoy.

Interesting to know about the difficulty difference. I have domestic Fire Shark but I run it on an NTSC-J MegaDrive 2 right now so it boots in overseas region already. Good to know otherwise if I try on my regular Genesis (although I have no Game Genie, haha).

Truxton (JU)
============
Switch To Japan Region
A2HA-AN46

Twin Hawk (JU)
==============
Switch To Japan Region
AAGT-AAE4

The other 2 Toaplan games I know of with the Japanese versions hiding inside, not too sure the region differences besides title screens for these two.

Truxton definitely plays harder in JP mode (most noticeable with hard mode). Twin Hawk seems the same aside from the title screen, but I'm not completely sure.

The only other Toaplan Genesis port I have besides Truxton, Daisenpuu, and Fire Shark is Twin Cobra. Twin Cobra is the same in both US and JP mode.

I know of a few other games that show region differences, though (not all shmups). Forgotten Worlds and Quackshot play in Japanese with the switch set to JP mode, but don't seem to have other differences. Ghouls 'n Ghosts not only plays the Japanese version (which has a different title screen and different checkpoints) in JP mode, but has an in game code for the Japanese version as well. My Genesis is switched with the cart slot widened for JP games, though ironically, I have a Game Genie as well.

Code for Ghouls 'n Ghosts (from Gamefaqs):
Japanese Mode

Enter the Options menu. Choose ''26'' for the music and ''56'' for sound selections, then hold Down/Left + A + B + C + Start

bVork and I both noticed everything fired much more in Same! Same! Same! over Fire Shark, plus the order of powerups seems to be different in certain parts, such as one section where the fast large planes fly towards you, each contains a power up, usually green, then blue, blue, blue, then something else, the JP version of Fire Shark changes up the power up appearing order.

In Fire Shark tanks usually hesitate before shooting at you, in Same ! Same! Same! they don't hesitate at all they open fire often times right as they appear onscreen, sometimes just before.

It sucks that Majesco would sell such a stripped down Sega Genesis as with their 3rd-party released Genesis 3 console...such a Genesis Game Shark won't work with it. But it's nice enough to play some JPN region MD games since the cartridge slot is wide enough to accept them... ^_~

Thanks for the find - I might have to try that on my Fire Shark cart!

Cool, I'll have to try this out...if it's much harder I might end up sticking with arcade Fire Shark though :lol:
