It's interesting how Erinu made the same post in the old sealed game forum spam thread. Are you Erinu?
Nope, but I saw his post in the previous thread (which didn't get any attention) and wondered why a second thread was accepted here by bloodflowers, since this person seems like a forum spammer.

...in fact I'm quite insulted that you even considered lumping me in with people like him. :|

I know people hate me here but this isn't fair. I don't even KNOW you. I've not spoken to you before, so why the hate? You're a NEWBIE. You shouldn't go around insulting people just because you see other people doing it.

I see you live in NZ.. do you like sheep? Because you certainly are one...

This bandwagon has got to stop.

Also no, I don't know Etarin, but from what I've seen... no loss there.

*edit, scratch that - this guy in Australia is selling a sealed copy for AU$700/£339/$670;

Sorry.. I didn't mean to say it like that. I don't know you, and yes, I'm still fairly new. And yeah, admittedly I don't make great posts.. but I don't like you, based on your posts.. sometimes you contribute (like all those links above, and I noticed you posted pictures of the Raiden Jet theme in the Raiden Fighters thread) but most of the time all I see is you complaining about stuff/generally being negative about something or someone.
Erinu wrote:I see you live in NZ.. do you like sheep? Because you certainly are one...
Wrong. I think for MYSELF, thank you very much. I'm not following anyone's opinion of you here, because I have my own. You don't seem like a positive person and well.. I hate people who are constantly like that.

But hey, nice to meet you! First you say that you don't know me, the next thing you do is turn around and insult me. With none the less a sheep stereotype, sure haven't heard those before.
Erinu wrote:This bandwagon has got to stop.
Yeah! Everyone who dislikes you totally isn't doing it because you're negative or post rude comments, it's because they're circlejerking! Sorry, but that's retarded.

How could I have bumped your thread when it was already at the top of the page?

I generally prefer discussion which is made from topics which aren't copy/pasted into hundreds of forums, which is your discrete way of shamelessly advertising for your sealed game forum. There wouldn't be any problem with this thread if I didn't see it on 3 forums I also visit (ausgamers, n4g and here) already.

Okay, serious discussion

right here

RIGHT NOW

LET'S DO THIS

Are you a gamer, or a businessman?

If you were a pure gamer (without a business angle) it would be in your best interest to downplay sealed games (yes, emulation/flashcarts/etc. change the equation) because attention to games drives up pricing across the board and prompts people to save games with the objective of cashing in later, reducing the number of new-release retail games available. Even in this scenario, the "pure gamer" who buys into, say, loose NES or Genesis games right now should be able to turn around and sell them for the same or more money in the future if the need arises.

The rest of the argument is even more straightforward: Gamers care first about the experience of the game, not the experience of the package on a shelf. Spamming random forums and your question "what sealed shump game is the most expensive" is not putting gaming first; putting an interest in sealed games first subjugates the reason for having games in the first place - having fun playing - a distant second.

You can't play a sealed game, a fact which seems to be repeated over and over yet which doesn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the seal club.

The business angle isn't so clear either. What's your plan? You linked to the bozos grading and slabbing sealed NES games? I can definitely see keeping games as a form of asset (that's part of the reason I buy most classic games on popular systems), but it's an uncertain investment and just as prone to disaster as other forms of investment (for example, just yesterday the well pump here sprung a leak here and started flooding the basement; if I hadn't been here and had I been storing anything near that spot, it would've been finished).

And nix to the notion that you need to collect games and party with the seal club to have fun. The sealed games experience isn't my top reason for visiting Forums, and if I want to do something entertaining I can do it for free - I don't need sealed games to be in on the club, and I find that people who put style over substance make inadequate company in the long run.

Given that there doesn't seem to be a very good logical reason for collecting sealed games (unless you and the gang manage to drive up prices to ridiculous levels on commons, which remains to be seen) outside of business, I'm inclined to think that the people in this movement either have a hole in their life or are opportunistic bastards (like myself).

Denvan - Nice avatar. How do you get a high score in Twinbee Yahho, btw? I'm sure you're familiar with the scoring system.

Ed - I highly doubt he is interested in serious discussion -- he just wants to keep his thread at the top of off topic and create as much drama as possible (hopefully roping some people in while he's at it).

Are you a gamer, or a businessman?
He's a yuppie that's afraid to leave the house. High interest savings accounts and stock markets aren't rugged enough for his individualism. I guess we should be thankful for his crippling disorder otherwise he might be finding satisfaction in fucking over the impoverished peoples of the world like the rest of his kind right now instead of pissing off some real video game collectors for jacking up prices and (speaking of which) trying to figure out the best stain remover for cellophane.
Hello Denvan awesome site, it seems like a really nice community I look forward to joining and hopefully you'll also stop on by and check out mine.

Good luck with the forum!

post of the year.

I'm gonna use this one next time he spams the gametz boards.

It should be coming within the next couple of weeks or so - he usually spams there once every 4 to 6 weeks

ed - hardcore collecting of *anything* is not a question of logic. i used to have a ££££ collection of japanese neo geo aes stuff, but i had a change of heart a couple of years back. i *do* understand why people collect hard-to-find items for whatever their taste is, but i probably shouldn't talk about it any further because i don't want to offend anyone :(

you also shouldn't assume that just because someone has game X sealed, that they don't also have a regular copy they play on. you guys are painting them as people who only buy stuff sealed, when in reality most hardcore collectors *re* buy their favourite games in new condition. it really isn't a case of being a "non" gamer :? is it really so wrong to want copies of your favourite games in pristine condition? like a historical artifact or something  that said, there are some rather aimless collections on there......

Even agreeing with what you say, that it's not a question of logic... I can understand.

But the real question is another.

WHY THIS THREAD?

How long can we discuss sealed games? If we assume a collector of sealed items actually gets to play the games, then fine, there's the whole forum to discuss them in particular. If, instead, we are here to discuss the whole point od buying sealed games... Everyone already spew his two cents on it. How farther can go a thread discussing the hobby of buying sealed stuff? It's a hobby for rich spoiled kids, and that's perfectly fine. Y-folded is better than shrinkwrap, or so we learn (I actually couldn't say one from the other). What else is left to say? Do we really want to drag this for two or three pages more, linking auctions to expensive sealed games and comparing prices?

Edit: to be even more clear - I like to buy games with a spine card if I can, but I don't start a thread on spine card fetishism.

indeed, i agree.

he's promoted his site now twice on the forum, and i think that's enough. hopefully he will stick around to discuss the games themselves, but perhaps not...

so yes, we know that the sealed game forum exists. we don't need any more adverts. best solution for denver is to put a link in his sig, and join some other discussions :)

I still have some AES stuff, so I also understand why it's done, but looking back I see it wasn't really for the best of reasons.

Speaking of which, why do people throw away spine cards? When I was young and stupid and bought my Jap PSX (1995) and merrily bought japanese games at my faithful importer's shop without even suspecting the raging collectior's manias, I just took the spine away and placed it inside the box.
Sounded very natural to me.
I even played PSX games in b/w for 6 months or so because my TV didn't support shit :D

er... [/ot].
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?
