Vexille is out today on DVD for the USA - 5/27/2008...

My local movie theatre chain had Vexille playing on the big screen a few months back but not enough audience to sustain a even a full week of playing it...ran for a few days and yanked out for good. Such a very short and limited theatrical engagement for the U.S. release of Vexille. Such is the norm for anime films these days or even imported CGI films...

Best Buy has the Vexille DVD on sale for a mere $16.99 USD...not a bad price, indeed. ^_~

I saw this in the theater about a year ago. Visually very impressive, but I thought the story wasn't enough to sustain the whole movie. Appleseed was better (which I think was made by the same team, no?).

That's funny, because that's exactly what I thought of Appleseed back when I watched it. Pretty much exactly as with any other pure-CGI movie out there. Most of them have impressive visuals (or rather, effects), but it's either their application that fails, or the story itself.

Well, actually, I agree with everything you say. But that doesn't mean Appleseed can't be better than Vexille. The action scenes in that film were more exciting. ;)

I'm not a huge fan of CGI movies either, but the Japanese certainly make ones that are 1000-times better than the hideous trash coming out of Hollywood (Ratatouille, etc). It's so sad to see where American animation has gone since the masterpieces of the 30s-60s.

Tis a shame that American animation will never go back to how it was like in the Golden Age of animation...all that lovely hand-drawn work. It is best regulated to independent animation shorts and short films. Even all the neon glow effects on the Tron characters themselves in the 1982 Disney film of Tron, was done entirely by hand... ^_~

Disney would be wise to cash in on a true bona-fide Tron 2.0 film sequel...but would it be as good story-wise or as cool looking as the original film though in terms of visual aesthetics?

Look at the 1981 film of Heavy Metal and you'll see such cool hand-drawn animation and some cool airbrushed backdrops as well -- you won't see any of that stuff in today's mainstream commercial animation... ^_~

Heavy Metal 2000 really didn't live up to it's predecessor but takes a different spin on things...
