Thoughts on Haze?...

Post by dave4shmups »

I've heard various things about this game, ranging from the 4.5 that IGN gave it, to someone who came into our store and said it was generic, but fun. The plot certainly sounds interesting, but, listening to the review on the Gametrailers, the voice acting sounds ridiculous. MGS4 is coming soon, but the PS3 doesn't need any more poor exclusives (Lair, etc.)

I remember the time I thought Haze was Army of Two.

It would be hilarious if Haze turns out to be the better game. Of course, I still have to play something newer than Perfect Dark from the devs, so...

edit: actually, Second Sight was a gigantic turd for the most part

Download the demo. That is all it took for me to get it off of my hard drive as quick as possible. Right now to me, the BEST PS3 game out there is Pixel Junk Monters. Definitely not a FPS, but kept me from selling my PS3.

The game is ok. Fans of over-the-top Paul Verhoeven style satire (ala Robocop, Starship Troopers) are likely to enjoy some parts of Haze, if you can put up with the technical flaws in the game. Haze's whole narrative and tone has so much of Verhoeven's style in it, I'm surprised he wasn't somehow involved...

All I know about it is that it was developed just down the road from me. I met this bloke at a party who was a programmer for Free Radical a few months back. He said if I bought him a drink he'd put the good word in for me to get a job as a composer there. I was pretty pissed and said no. Prob for the best. I'd have no clue how to write music for a shitty FPS's.

It sounds, looks, feels and plays like absolute trash.

To me, Haze always seemed like its existence was meant to be as a testing ground for TimeSplitters 4/5/6 from the time it was announced. The gameplay did look rather average from the videos I watched, but I did like the traits each side had.

I always thought the story was shit, though. How many times has the cut-and-paste "person fights for Faction A against Faction B, realizes that the Faction A = bad, so person switches to Faction B to fight Faction A" plot been done now?

If you enjoy only the most mediocre of games then I say go for it. It excels at being completely average.

Gutted, I love Free Radical, and Haze is so bloody mundane...
