forum democracy!?!

Post by Super Laydock »

Props to BF for running this form by his own means.
Seriously: much appreciated and undervalued,

Then again: when a (certain) size of the forum member would like an "unban" would this request be granted (conditions set by admins and mods applying of course)?

For example; if shoe kinda promised to not spam the foruml ike b4, could he join again?

I respect the mods decisions and shoe clearly showed a lack of respect.
Could ban's be undone if some showed remorse.????

I think ultimately it should come down to the mods. If they really hated him that much, and if they thought that he really was destroying the integrity of the forum, then that's their call. A poll would have been nice though.

Thanks for starting this thread by the way. I want to hear some ideas regarding this too.

I think it needs to be pointed out that shoe-san would never promise any such thing

I think the mods had already given him like 3 chances.

yes, he got several warning, but he seemed to have ignored them.
I was actually surprised that the mods were so patient with him

If the mods and admins give someone warnings, and that person keeps doing what they were being warned for, the ban's justified, and there's no reason for democratic polls to decide if they stay gone or get let back in. It's only when mods and admins do things in a half-assed or unjust manner that democratic pollings on bans would be a legit concept. Of course, the polls would be shut down anyway if the mods and admins were being dicks, so the concept is negated either way really.

Yeah, just because the majority enjoy watching trainwrecks, that doesn't mean the admins & mods should organize trainwrecks.

He was given plenty of warnings, and the IRC chat was pretty much the last straw. He thought he could do whatever he wanted with no reprecussions .. and he was proven wrong. :/

Even if he made some good posts, the signal/noise ratio there was pretty out of whack.

Shoe's been banned!? When did this happen & for what exactly?

I think Ive seen 1 post somewhere regarding really useless posting cuz he asked something like "should the period be round?".

We have an IRC chat?

How many chances would you have us give him? How much more of our time would you see wasted? How many more topics do we have to lock or clean from the boards? Let's see shall we, in his own words:
Shoe, in irc wrote:20:43 < IAMMIGHTY> I'm just gonna flood the forum with discussion topics lol
20:43 < bsidwell> Good plan.
20:43 < IAMMIGHTY> nothing they can do about that lol
20:43 < bsidwell> (Note: That was sarcasm. It's actually a bad plan, unless you want to be banned.)
20:44 < IAMMIGHTY> if they bite then they get demodded lol
How much more bullshit from one user do you expect us to take? The forum is not a democracy. It never has been, it never can be, and it never will be. There's a set of rules people agree to at the door, a certain level of conduct that is required, that goes for 95% of the forums out there. If you pee on their rug they will show you the door.

I'll miss shoe. He added some much needed humor to the overtly serious tone of this forum. I think I speak for the most of us when I say that he rarely annoyed us, even when he was making stupid topics, and he never offended anybody as far as I recall.

tiw was an alternate account Twiddle created when he forgot his password. When he was able to successfully log on as Twiddle again, the tiw username was locked. (We operate a strict policy of one account per user...)

Bannings of people like the Turkey from Gobble Gobble always make me a bit sad as it means a character from this fairly tight community goes away, our numbers dwindle ever so slightly, and perhaps as a whole we've failed to keep the standard high without a ban. People like Icycalm where antagonistic and had to go, but Shoe was fairly harmless so it's a shame he couldn't be roped in and refined a little. I'm also just a little hesitant about this place becoming far too serious (which it never will of course, with idiots like me and others about!), and newer members seeing it as a place where users get banned regularly.

Needs must though I guess. I'd love to see Shoe back and resisting being to eager with the nonsence posting, but I guess he had his warnings...

What's he going to do with his time?

Uhhh, don't really get the "poor shoe" argument, he's still yakking it up on IRC and doesn't really seem scathed. He's a member of other forums too you know, so he'll have plenty more mods to mess with. He'll be fine.
