Mega/Sega CD System ver. 1 (tray loader)

Post by undamned »

For those of you w/ experience w/ the frontloading Sega/Mega CD, how well did the thing hold up? I'm considering this tray loader for a project, but I'll pass if they break easily...

And while I'm at it, what about the robustness of the NeoGeo tray loader, or any other pre-DVD era console w/ a tray loader for that matter?

What the hell kind of project are you working on? Why not use a PC CDrom drive?

It's a secret *shhhhh* :D PC CD-ROM's (even many old one's) typically use multi-phase motors for the spindle. I need a tray loader w/ a standard crappy ol' DC motor for the spindle and I don't want to have to modify mechanical tolerances to use my own motor. Thus, I'm looking for an "as-is" solution.
