So can/will this "Mutt Williams" become the "NEW" Indie or is the series dead now?
I used to think that "Brendan Fraser" from "The Mummy Returns" was going to be the "NEW" Indie. Hes got the comic style, good but not too good looks & the character was, I believe, from the same era etc...
If not Indie the character himself then a new offering so to speak.
If not Fraser, who else could carry the the fedora?

And this is why CG can rot in hell for all I care - directors fail to understand that when you utilize CG you are given the ability to bring absolutely any idea to life, no matter how over the top. This is why Indy can escape nuclear bombs, plastacine-Neo can fight 250 Agent Smiths and George Lucas can create huge over-the-top space battles full of insane action-angles that still manages to be less exciting and less convincing than the original airfix-model battles of the original Star Wars movies.Shatterhand wrote:when the movie uses CGI FX it really feels stupid, and it's the weakest movie on the series.
As soon as I saw the Indy trailer and that scene where they're jumping down that ruin on moving blocks I feared it might be full of CG junk. If you work without CG then you work within the confines of reality - sure, you might not be able to have the crazy-ass CG finale you want, but at least the movie won't be fucking retarded.

I really don't think they are trying to make a new Indy. They would get some furious backlash if they ever tried to call anyone but Harrison Ford to make Indy. Back at the time I've read numerous times that George Lucas wanted to do 5 Indy movies... and I've read a recent interview from him stating he's thinking about doing the 5th movie now, but I really don't think they will try to make Mutt Williams the main guy here. (Of Course Geroge Lucas is full of shit, what with Star Wars being 3 trilogies but he haven't even wrote the whole stuff)doodude wrote:So can/will this "Mutt Williams" become the "NEW" Indie or is the series dead now?

And I don't think Temple of Doom is really that bad, though it surely was the weakest movie on the series.
There's at lease one CG scene which is embarassingly bad, for those who watched it, let's say it's the Tarzan scene.

It's not. Temple of Doom is the low point of the series. I watched the movie last night, and I enjoyed it. It is *not* of the caliber of ROTLA or LC, but it's fun and entertaining, which I thought TOD was not. You could really, *really* tell that Spielberg was distracted by his future wife in TOD, because that movie was the very definition of "smelly".yojo! wrote:How can it be worse than Indiana jones and the temple of doom ?
There were several things that I appreciated about this movie, and the stunt work remains awesome. I'm sure that it helped that it was $5 to see it rather than $9.50, but I still wouldn't have been ticked had I paid that much.
All that being said, if you're contemplating going to see this movie *before* you go see Iron Man, you, sir, are absolutely stinking nuts. Iron Man was good enough to see twice, and I *never* pay to see a movie twice in the theater.
Here be spoilers.
Alright, just came back from watching it on the big screen. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. The story felt very contrived (did we really need aliens in an Indiana Jones movie?) and it clearly lacks the greatness and magic of the first 3 movies. What it also it lacks is subtlety and funny dialogue, which to some extend they tried to replace with very noticable CGI (e.g. some unnecessary cgi liana-swinging with cgi monkeys), and they went way over the top a couple of times (Indy survives an atomic blast inside a fridge which is blown across the desert and then opens the door and gets out like nothing happened, and man, this guy sure can take a beating at his age and jumps around like a 25-year-old ).
However, it was was not as embarrassing as I expected it to be (it was no Episode I), and even if it was not like the old Indiana Jones movies (and lacked "Indy-moments"), it was nice to see Indy one more time.
Jeers to Connery for not reprising his role as Indy's dad. Bad show, James.

You're nuts, Temple of Doom is a riot.yojo! wrote:How can it be worse than Indiana jones and the temple of doom ?
It might be the riot, come to think of it. A defining moment in popcorn fun.

The only thing I liked about Indiana Jones and the temple of doom was the arcade game from Atari. The movie in the other hand was a total P.O.S.Skykid wrote:You're nuts, Temple of Doom is a riot.yojo! wrote:How can it be worse than Indiana jones and the temple of doom ?

I thought Crystal Skull was horrible, worst of the series.
Why does Mutt have amazing knife twirling skills, but never actually use the knife?
Oz was a lame character - a madman who mumbles riddles.
And the whole skull mythos/alien thing was total fail for me. They should have kept the Atlantis script they were kicking about.

Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.
Oh, there were other stupid things, notably the scene where Indy says that he could teach in Leipzig next. Leipzig is in east Germany, which in 1957 was the soviet-controlled "German Democratic Republic". No-one in their right mind would have gone there on his own free will. If anything, Indy should have mentioned a university in west Germany. Goes to show that Lucas and Spielberg know zilch about history. Pretty sad that they spent millions on CGI and zero on history experts in a movie about an archeologist.
Also the whole magnetism thing in the warehouse........I doubt it would have worked, even with a strong magnetic force.
Gravity would have pulled the gunpowder down quicker than the attraction of the skull......
Also, I'm not a military buff, is there gunpowder in grenades?

I liked it. Not as good as LC or Raiders, but I liked it better than Temple of Doom. The CG was bad, but it didn't bother me too much because previous movies had stuff just as cheesy. Some of the cheesiness added to the movie for me. I liked Oz, myself, probably because I find cheesy stuff like that to be fun. I found it to have a good amount of humor. The part with the snake was entertaining. I also found the greaser stuff and the red scare to be a nice touch.
They took special care to show that the fridge was lead-lined. Given such a circumstance, it would be easy to survive a direct hit from a hydrogen bomb.Ceph wrote:Indy survives an atomic blast inside a fridge which is blown across the desert and then opens the door and gets out like nothing happened, and man, this guy sure can take a beating at his age and jumps around like a 25-year-old
While I take it that you are joking, the point isn't just that the heat of the blast didn't harm him, apparently neither did flying through the air and crashing into the desert even give him as much as a scratch. Maybe they should start building lead-lined fridges into fighter planes instead of ejector seats...MX7 wrote:They took special care to show that the fridge was lead-lined. Really. And especially not Indy. He made it quite clear in the movie that he hated the reds.JoshF wrote:Really?No-one in their right mind would have gone there on his own free will.
This is an Indiana Jones movie. Is there an Indiana Jones movie without comically evil enemies? Besides, I always considered the soviets to be comically evil.JoshF wrote:But you like the historical revisionism when it's in your favor (i.e. comically evil Soviets)Goes to show that Lucas and Spielberg know zilch about history.

One more thing regarding this:
Quite the oposite is true. Remember how they felt compelled to build a wall (they called it "anti-imperialist protective barrier") 4 years later to keep everyone from leaving the GDR?JoshF wrote:Really?No-one in their right mind would have gone there on his own free will.
Yeah, I was joking. If an H Bomb had hit him, he would have been Indiana pwn'd.Ceph wrote:While I take it that you are joking, the point isn't just that the heat of the blast didn't harm him, apparently neither did flying through the air and crashing into the desert even give him as much as a scratch. Just saw it: Ford and Allen do a great job. Lucas & Spielberg (don't know who to blame more for the script) fail. Plot wise this is certainly the worst Indiana film, and if it wasn't for the surprisingly great acting from the cast, I couldn't see myself enjoying it too much.
My real fear was that the aging actors couldn't hold there own, but maybe we need to worry more about aging directors! A better script would have put this one in front of Last Crusade for me, which I think suffers from the same dodgy script writing that Lucas is renown for.
Well, I went into this with low expectations but found myself really entertained through the whole film and enjoying seeing such a strong effort from the cast.
