Big Bang Theory
Big Bang Theory
Not another religion topic! This is about the TV show on CBS. Some more recent episodes (including the season finale which aired yesterday...)

It's a sitcom with a laugh-track, maybe sort of like Friends or some other tired American comedies, but all the main characters are overachieving nerds. Sometimes the jokes like to beat you over the face, but the show is at its best when the characters just don't relate to social norms at all. Sheldon is by far the best, relating everyday problems to Star Trek TOS episode story archs or quantum theory experiments. Darlene's boyfriend from Roseanne is the main character (Johnny Galecki), and she is in it as well as one of his flings, I won't spoil that though. The main plot is him trying to get with the hot neighbor chick who only dates jerks. Very cliche, but if you have food allergies, watch too much sci-fi, or get into disputes about time delegated for Halo nights, then you can relate. It almost gets it right.
I don't watch a lot of TV but after catching some of this I felt like I was missing out. So I thought I'd share. The episode titles seem like stabs at TOS episodes too with names like "The Bat Jar Conjecture".

i like this show. the bit where they were all playing halo 3 (and another episode where they were all on laptops playing WoW) in their apartment was pretty funny
my fav character is probably the one who thinks he's the fonz
tv needs more shows taking the piss out of nerds

Am I the only one who hates this shit?
Watching this is akin to reading a book consisting of one-liners, where the funny parts are underlined.
in a similar vein is The IT crowd on channel 4 (in the uk) which revolves around 3 guys and their manager in a large firms IT dept
has Noel Fielding from the mighty boosh in it too
check it out:

I can't stand laugh tracks either. Thank goodness they didn't use them in the US version of The Office.
I love what I've seen of IT Crowd, only seen a couple of episodes though, Richard Ayoade is usually my favorite character in anything he's in (Darkplace!) Thanks for the link.

Also what the hell is up with british shows only having 6 episodes per "series" and only having a "series" whenever the hell they feel like it? That's laziness compared to America if you ask me

There's this other british show I like called "Feel the force" that so far has only had 1 "series". And also Little Britain hasn't had much content in the past few years either.Lordstar wrote:no its just the IT crowd that does that. there usually random not set like they are in the USindstr wrote:IT Crowd rules as well. Two reasons why The IT Crowd is superior to The Big Bang Theory:

That said, I like Big Bang but I'm afraid it's not going to last for long unless it moves away from it's conventional sitcom roots. The nerd/geek angle paints it a fresh new layer, but underneath it are the same old colors that are bound to make people tire of it after a while.

Honestly I'm surprised big bang has lasted even as long as it has. So I'm content with any more episodes that come out

The big bang theory? It's pretty horrible.
The IT Crowd is greatly underrated, I think. It's very much a spiritual successor to Father Ted, and shares that kind of soft surrealism.
Mouth to Mouth with Dean Learner was pretty good for the two episodes I watched of it. A very brave format for a comedy show, and one that was mostly successful.
New series of Garth Merenghi on the way! Sould be a hoot.
