I don't know about them, but as soon as I can convince one of my Wii-owning friends to buy this, I fully intend to challenge the world rankings ;)

Ah yes, my score in the hidden mode is 1338/1341

Does anything neat happen if you get a prefect score?

Heh, I found it just now. Go to the "Credits" option. The letters that go "plink" aren't indestructible, they just take a few shots.

Congrats to those high scores, there! I linger around on the top 30 board in the NE as JDWARK. Little by little my ranking goes lower and lower...

Cool find on the hidden mode! I'll be sure to try it out.

Anything in particular that you have to do to open up that secret mode, or just let the credits roll?

I was skeptical about this game when I heard it was only two levels and saw how much involved shooting non-combatant ground targets, but I'm glad I bought it. Very addictive and easily worth a fiver. I've only had time for half a dozen attempts so far, but I'm still ranked 39 in the UK on 5 minute mode.

Out of curiosity, what results are people getting in the quick fire mode? My best was 10.3 per second.

I was pleased with myself once I reached like 9.3 sec in the rapid fire.

And maybe I've done something you guys haven't yet, but once I go into the credits, the NES ship appears and you start to shoot at the letters in the credits.

Go to credits. Notice it's playing the 8-bit intro to the Star Soldier theme. When that ends and the first credit-intro text disappears (when the 2nd credit text appears), hit buttons and you'll get your NES version ship with the fun powerup music. If you hit buttons too early, you exit out of the credits.

Destroy the credits.

I'm only 8.3 on the quickfire. I should practice, but...I can't battle a hori stick autofire setting...

I couldn't resist and caved on purchasing this today. It's very addicting, as you guys know. For now, I'm stuck using the Wiimote until I get a Classic Controller. I think I might actually get one just for this game. My high score in 2M Mode is around 660,000 and my speed is 6.5 shots per second. The wife is using the TV now plus my batteries are dying. Once I get the TV back and charge the batteries I'll be back trying to up my score.

Anyone want to inform me on the controls? Can you manually control your options, etc.?

Sup, Kyle? Not a huge fan of 5-min mode. 2-min mode is more my thing, and I'm currently number 1 in the Southeast and North America. I don't know how those crazy Japanese broke 1,100,000, but I'm definitely doing my homework these days via some Japanese players 1,070,000 point run posted to YouTube.

I fucking suck...my 2-minute mode highscore is at least 1mil because I can't beat the boss of part 2. I should probably stick my ship speed on slow because I had it on fast and generally did quite badly...

just picked this up on the VC, and this is the game I've been looking for. Something I can turn on for literally 2-5 minutes and when i need it. I just need a version to take on the road now

You're not missing any opportunities. The contest is only open to select residents of the Pan-Galactic American Empire.

That sucks that you have to use the name they assign you instead of your own. The scoreboard might get overloaded with jibberish names.

Yeah, they pick a handful of states - Florida being quite large - and just exclude them.

I think they know which states house the true shmup talent. :)

I want to try signing up just to see if they reject a New Jersite on the registration level, but don't look forward to all the junk emails......

Dammit. I'm going to have to flip/flop my VC games on my SD card to get this game to fit. :|

Man. What I would give to be able to plug a USB HD into this thing!

Here's the reply I got as to why some states can't play:

"Unfortunately, we are restricted by state laws governing tournaments, over which we have no control. "

Wow, I can't believe some states actually had the foresight to know about online video game tournaments and make restrictions for them. How lame.

I'm confused. I'm based in the UK and I have a US Wii and the US game and I'm not offered the option of setting my country as "UK." How did you manage it?

EDIT: Never mind, I just noticed that the game is available in the UK, contrary to what I had been told

I'll pitch a few more tips/discoveries I've made:

Concerning those two big orbs with green rings around 'em; your force pod things know which one is the correct one to shoot so fire em off and get that 10,000 bonus asap.

Also, on 5-minute mode I've seen this large rainbow orb appear that floats down the center of the screen. It's worth 100,000 points! I think in order to make it appear one must destroy all the enemy waves. I base this on the fact it only appears very near the end of the level and no enemies appear afterword.

EDIT: Major bummer that so many members here are on the restricted list :(
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.
