I am ranked 6th place in Germany with approx. 800k points.
Any tips for scoring?

Do not shoot the core...something tells me that there's some behind-the-scenes boss milking strategy in this mix.

However, when I see people on YouTube shoot the core = End bonuses = More points...though I'm not really sure anymore.

Region ranking and a short timed score attack sounds brilliant. I really have to electronicalise this to my Wii right now...

As long as you're powered up fully, (or even one below possibly, you can smoke the level 2 boss before he even has a chance to fire his 5 lasers:

1. Kill off his arms (easy enough) & have your forces charged when they fall off -

2. Then, when he loops off screen, position your self at the top right at lv2 spd, release your forces, directing them to the left, and veering to the left as well, just ahead of him nearly nose to nose & lay into his weak spot, just to the side under his nose. If done right, his spot should be about red

3. When he retreats to the bottom to go corner to corner, use your tail shot to finish him off

My best on 5min, was with 32 sec remaining. And post your scores in the caravan thread dudes! I'm on the freaking Japanese boards, ugh

Tips for scoring -

1. Never get hit obviously, the main bonus being every additional pwr-up is 10,000

2. Kill the "closing 4 sides" enemy from the inside of course; & to keep your chain going while doing so: get in the middle at the last second & release your forces for just a bit to kill him quick (but you have to kill him with your shot for the bonus)

3. Kill all parts of the first boss, the bonus for that outweighs the time bonus

4. Memorize the Z bonuses locations in level 2, as missing one screws you for a high score

5. Direct your forces with L/R (improved my score)

Another tip -

Before each of the bosses destroy both of the closing eyelids at the same time for a 50,000 bonus.

I was avoiding this because of the lack of a proper arcade mode... but the scoring has piqued my interest. See you near the bottom of the list ;)

I might add: in 2Minute-Mode ;D
but thanks for the tips so far, although i did a few things already (like not getting hit and killing that doughnut-like enemy)
Can anyone explain how to doublekill?

Hmm I find your videos nice. You have a certain calm quality like Bob Ross. Take that as your will. :D

Super Star Soldier is boring and easy, and the caravan isn't even very good in that one.
SSS is a fantastic update of an old favourite game.
If you consider it boring, then this tells me you don't like old school games at all.

You could have said "I don't like it's style", which would be more appropriate here if what I assume is right.

I love the game and still think it's the best GC purchase I ever made.
Super Star Soldier =/= Star Soldier GC
or did SSS see a GC remake too?

Yeah that Hints and Tips page is extremely helpful! I have one question though: How does one consistently make the two Psy enemies spit out the Gugs to get the 10,000 bonus rather than the normal 2,000 points? It seems to just happen randomly for me...

Good question, haven't quite figured that out either -

That tip page is great btw, thanks man!

Also, can you get a 10,000 doublekill on the front/back "triangle" enemies?

Speaking of controls, when I turn the wii remote on its side the stiff, microscopic d-pad cuts into my thumb and doesn't allow me to move diagonally very easily. After about an hour my thumb starts to turn red and gets really hot so I have to take a break... The controls implementing the analog stick are way more comfortable but performance takes a dive.

This is the first time I've ever considered getting a "classic controller." Anyone have experience with it? Softer/bigger d-pad? :?

Of course the best option would be to just hack a Saturn pad to work with Wii. I'm sure that'd be a cinch!

Yeah, classic cont is what use. Much better D-Pad for sure. Not bad for a 1st party cont. @ $20 either -

All right. I killed those two big front/back triangle ships at the exact same time and no bonus. For the Psy enemies you actually have to wait around for a bit and eventually one will glow blue and one will glow red, shoot the blue one for 10,000. And while waiting may seem like a problem, I think it's beneficiary overall if one can kill enemies REALLY fast in the beginning. During the three second or so wait, you can damage both Psy enemies a bit and coast around to destroy ground targets so it's really not too bad.

I would recommend a classic controller, or buy a Super Famicom Wii controller off ebay.
