Which Guitar Hero is right for me (if any)
I was wondering what game in the series has more classic rock. Ofcourse "classic rock" could mean many things. I'll just say I want some good smooth rock from the 60's to the early 80's. Do any of the games have this type of music? I bought the second one and knew about 3 of the songs. Well, 4 if you count Trogdor. Just good times rock not random screaming and scrambled guitar notes.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Really now, just check the song lists.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

3 has more known songs than 2, and more licensed musics instead of covers.
I've only played 2 and 3, so I can't say anything about the others.
If you have a modded PS2, you can get one of the hacked versions, I've seen like 20 different versions of Guitar Hero with different songs selection.
EDIT: Of course you should get the hacked versions only if you own the original. Pirating is bad, etc etc

It's also my favorite GH even though I don't really like the classic stuff, BTW. 2 is too button-mashy for me and 3 is meh.

GH1 had the best music. That said, you're probably better off getting GH2 for the 360 and downloading the GH1 track packs. There are around 10 for download and they're most of my personal favorites from 1. 2's interface is better, if only for the fact that hammer ons/pull offs are much more possible.
(The PS2 has a GH1/2 combo pack out for $50. That might be your best bet, though you'd miss out on DLC and 360 exclusive songs)

depends on which version you DL. A lot of them ive seen people say the notes are wrong or there slightly out. Guess its just trial and error.trivial wrote:How good is the note synch in these hacked versions?

Here's the best version of guitar hero...

The one where you actually learn how to play a real guitar instead of wasting the same amount of time it would have taken to learn how to play, being a poseur and playing a freaking glorified plastic version of air guitar
DDR, I get. At least you are getting excercise. Guitar hero, no. It's a complete waste of your life.

I always get a kick out of people who say shit like this because it's so fucking unrealistic it's amazing. The one where you actually learn how to play a real guitar instead of wasting the same amount of time it would have taken to learn how to play
EDIT: That is not to say that really playing guitar is not a better use of your time than GH if you really want to play guitar.

Absolutely terrible. I've played approximately 120 custom songs (three mixes with about forty songs each) and while some are pretty spot on, most are atrocious, and none are perfect.trivial wrote:How good is the note synch in these hacked versions?

I don't know why people waste time playing Pro Evolution Soccer when they could be outside playing real football.CStarFlare wrote:I always get a kick out of people who say shit like this because it's so fucking unrealistic it's amazing. The one where you actually learn how to play a real guitar instead of wasting the same amount of time it would have taken to learn how to play

I don't know why people wasting time play Counter-Strike when they could get a real gun and kill real people.

Lol. It's a video game. No one claims to be a guitarist after playing the GAME.indstr wrote:Here's the best version of guitar hero...

Everything is a waste of life, knucklehead, including shooters, or even exercising. The point is to have fun before a meteor crushes your skull in your sleep.

This argument is total bullshit. You know why I can say this with a level of certainty? Because I'm a musician and a Guitar Hero player. And by no means is time spent learning to play GH equal time spent learning a real guitar. I've spent almost a decade playing the saxophone (and I'm quite good if I say so myself) and I can't just pick it up and lay down the solo from Dave Mathews Band song X (Sorry, I couldn't think of any other popular, semi-current song with a sax solo that didn't involve Huey Lewis or Kenny G) NEWS FLASH: People are lazy and don't want to spend 5 years practicing just so they can be able to learn music one song at a time. They want to spend 5 hours on a video game and be done with it. Guitar Hero is about instant gratification. You get to feel for an iota of time like a member of your favorite bands and get a small sense of accomplishment for completing it. I don't get why other musicians feel so threatened by people pretending to play an instrument. Has anyone EVER boasted about how well they do in Guitar Hero outside of conversations conversations about Guitar Hero, especially when playing a guitar is the topic? No, and if they ever do, you have my blessings to emotionally and physically destroy them.indstr wrote:Here's the best version of guitar hero...

Saying people who play Guitar Hero should just learn guitar is like saying people who play shooters should just learn to fly a fighter jet (EDIT: which I JUST now see that jp said three posts before me. Damn, I thought I was on to something there)

Perhaps I should set aside my Guncons and do real people/vampire shooting?
Yes it looks stupid, yes it is insulting to real guitar players, yes time could be spent learning real notes on the real thing. However, this is meant to be fun which some people still find it. A game at the core should be fun for the player. I'm sure that nobody was complaining about the SEGA Shooting games in Japan when they came out. I doubt that realism was an issue for people who had never fired a real weapon. A certain parallel may be drawn in this case.
On the note of novilty controllers, I own several guns and enjoy real shooting and Guncon shooting because they are different.

Where do people get the idea that hitting five buttons in sequence is even remotely as tough as learning a full spectrum of chords, getting calluses, etc. Do people try to make the same argument with Beatmania? People who play video games I mean, and then try to mutter something about you wasting your life.indstr wrote:Here's the best version of guitar hero...

It would be a waste of time for me. Has anybody ever seen keyboard mania?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTY0RkhxCkQ
He's got an actual Midi keyboard. You can't tell me that the physical finger movement on that is dissimilar from actually playing a real keyboard.
Now riddle me this:
Why do they have this DDR type format Instead of making the program constructive, and actually teaching people how to read music (which could be done just as easily, by having a staff with notes scroll by instead of the ddr type format) ????
In fact, I wish there was a program like that because it would make learning to read music & playing keyboard fun. But I haven't been able to find one so far

I can dance, DJ, and play the guitar, but for some reason I still waste my life away playing DDR/ITG/PIU, IIDX/DJMAX, and GH/GF... do you know why? It's because they're completely different things.
It's not supposed to be the same thing. It's supposed to be a game. It took me months to be able to play the guitar even remotely well, but I was playing GH on expert two hours into it... see the difference?
Also, trying to learn piano on KM without any real training is horrible because it gets you into really bad habits since you don't actually know how you're supposed to position your hands and fingers. If you want to play the piano go take real lessons. It might not be very fun at first, but after you start making real progress it becomes a lot more enjoyable.

If not for experimental music and legacy instruments, musical notation could be simplified impressively.
And experimental music is already constrained by the twelve-tone scale. Basically today's actual musicians are more like students of the history of music than they've ever been since medieval times. indstr's ambitions are quaint, in other words, and Guitar Hero is fun.
Yes, a dusty cartridge for the VCS is the way I see old friends.

Speaking as a guitar player, Guitar hero actually doesn't insult my intelligence. It is 10 times more true to the instrument then guitar freaks is, for example.
Guitar hero 1 has many of the best songs. Guitar Hero 2 has Free Bird, though.
Guitar hero 3 is all over the place. it has great charts for some of the songs, and others are so far off the mark it's not even funny. not that they are out of sync, because they are synched fine. they jus aren't very true to the song in many cases.
Good ones on GUitar Hero 3:
Bulls on parade
Reptilia.

I love guitar playing. I’m a total beginner
I am 19 years old and I love guitar playing. I’m a total beginner and I want to try and learn to play. I know this may be kind of stupid question but if I’m a beginner who may want to eventually try learn electric guitar I should learn acoustic first right? I mean it makes sense but I could also just have a go at electric. So I don’t know and I need advice. All information and help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
