Cliches You Wish Would Just Burn in Hell
Try Planescape:Torment. For realz!- Amnesia characters (simple rule: I won't play a game if the main character has amnesia)

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

Your complaining in every of my threads has become a kind of clicheiatneH wrote:Modern gaming, and now this. UFO you sure have a lot to complain about.
I hate that cliche how the loudest person who constantly complains is always the last person to get eaten by the T-Rex.

More hated cliches:
- "I've seen your technique once it won't work on me again!"
- "MWAHAHAHAHHAHA!" or other cheesy evil laugh.
- "You were 100x stronger than me but my 2 day training closed the gap and I'll beat you."

-People hanging up without saying goodbye. It's rude and unnatural.
-AI always being evil if it becomes sentient. Technophobia is SO 50's...
-Creepy ghost/zombie kids in horror movies, crawling out of wells, down the stairs and doing other shit that stooped working after Ringu.
And if I hear a nursery rime such as ring around the rosies on more time in a horror movie, I'm going to stop watching it in disgust.
-Zombie/Vampire/Werewolf movies featuring "a new breed". "Retarded breed" is more like it.

Goes both ways doesn't it? Moderation between the two extremes makes a gamer happy and fulfilled.
That said, I do not own a current generation console. But I feel no rush getting on, plenty of games left to finish from the previous one until prices are lowered and the game libraries grow.

anyway,
...another cliche I despise is when in RPGs you start with a full fledged character and then, after having spoiled 3/4 of the spells and most powerful weapons/armours/attacks, you get hurled to lvl 1 so that the game can have a proper beginning.
That's the most irritating thing ever. And having just bought Breath of Fire III for PSP, I had this very bad feeling again.

- such-and-such game is over-rated
- ikaruga is a puzzle game
- posting in internet child speak, and pretending to be "ironic"
- refer to someone's post while confusing irony with sarcasm and/or hypocrisy
- port vs. pcb threads
- pictures of tacos
etc etc
probably time to do a sonicR

Replace X with fighting, racing or whatever adrenaline-pumping activity. Often shows up in fighting anime/manga, but can appear in other genres and movies as well.
- If the male protagonist is being accompanied by a female, they must kiss each other/have sex at some point.
It seems that a male and a female cannot work together or do any activity without feeling attraction for each other. This one plagues movies and there are very few exceptions to this rule.
And one that plague videogames:
- The boss that becomes stronger the more damage it takes.
A cliche pretty much taken for granted. You damage the boss/destroy its parts/disarm him, and instead of crippling, it actually becomes more dangerous.

Traitional western gun vs katana. Blocking bullets with a sword, cutting barrels off guns ect...
I think it stems from the pride and symbolism of the swordsman. It must have been quite disheartning to feel that such a powerful and traditional weapon is weak.
Just after the mention of "The samurai can shit a lion" we see the proof of concept:
