LGB picked "Wrath of the Black Manta," it's a great game! Well, great fun anyway, if mainly for the dialogue!
Go check 'er out here, or post about it here, same thing!
New Game of the Week!
I actually played this one (more than I really care to admit) back when I actually had an NES. I think I even beat it once or twice. Now I'm going to have the cheesy music stuck in my head all night.
Basically, the game plays like a low-budget Shinobi with a standard 80s "Say no to drugs" throwaway plot tacked on.

In other words it sucks, although it might be funny after a few beers.Vexorg wrote:I actually played this one (more than I really care to admit) back when I actually had an NES. I think I even beat it once or twice. Now I'm going to have the cheesy music stuck in my head all night.

SWY: Games are just for fun
Comparison between the domestic and import:
Import has worse cutscene graphics, but apparently is a bit more hard edge (lol @ suiciding enemies, or whatever happens)
Import doesn't let you edit your magic usage during gameplay, so Select is useless.
Import has an extra stage, woowowoo
Domestic game has freaky digitized-looking cutscene graphics
and a plot that is totally off the hook.
So: The gameplay does suck, it's basically Rolling Thunder with clumsy ninja action. Sad because with a bit of work it could be an all-time classic, what with the ninja magic combo stuff. All you have to do throughout the game is play peek-a-boo with enemies as they pop up from behind crates, and catch the random red guy, and enter rooms repeatedly to get back your health.
I hate the hidden rooms too - too darn hard to trigger them, even when you know they should be right in front of you.
The plot more than makes up for how lame the gameplay is though! I love it when Black Manta completely loses his marbles or when somebody tells him that they kidnap kids for "business reasons." His ability to continue a conversation with different people is hilarious too.

New game of the week is Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa. If you like platformers, then you should give it a try!
