ps2 online games running on ps3

Is it possible to make ps2 games that have a online mode that works on the ps3? Probably not right? Can anybody shed some light on the matter?

i can't say for all the ps2 games, but for a lot of the online-enabled games, the servers for them are being closed here in europe. something like Twisted Metal Black Online (which doesn't really have offline gameplay) is now totally worthless
