Toaplan sound emulation issues in MAME

Post by overkill55 »

Sorry if this has been discussed before - searched and couldn't find any topics on it.

I am just wondering why sound is often not emulated in Toaplan games in MAME? Is it something to do with an encrypted sound ROM or something?
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

Thanks for the link, some great info on there. If I controlled the priority list, those would be number one for sure!

Oh, and if you bother any of the mamedevs about it, it will take 3 times as long to get it emulated.

I give you fair warning right now.

Unfortunately I have heard similar things :(

Is this the same group that was given the Ketsui to dump or was that someone else? I remember "The Guru" being mentioned

AFAIK Guru only dumps data from PCBs, he has nothing to do with getting them to work.
Holy s***! I didn't know it was SO complicated.

Be thankful it only kills the sound...otherwise you wouldn't be able to play some Toaplan games (Fixeight, Dogyuun, I think Vimana, and of course Fire Shark, and some others like the crazy Arkanoid clone) period.

Personally, they need to get GI Joe working again first :P This is a close second though.

At least they know though. And knowing is half the battle.

Haha, post of the week. Thank you sir! :D

Funny you should say that though...I walked into a GameStop last week and asked the guy how he was doing, and he said "I'm here, that's half the battle" and that line came into my mind.

half the battle = knowing
other half = being there
third half = overtime pay?

The rate at which those protected chips get decapped is directly proportional to the amount of money people donate, as the process is costly and they aint going to use their own money to get it done. So if you want sound emulation in those Toaplan games, donate.

I heard they had an agreement with a CPU protection lab (they want the advertisement no doubt!) to do it much cheaper than the usual rate, but it's still pretty expensive.

I probably would've said, "What's the other half? Not physically assaulting the customers?"

The guy was practically walking dead, just not that kind.

What's the story behind that comment, I wonder?
