Frankly, compared to the original ones I see a completely different game. Not just visually. The devs imo clearly decided to "reinvent" and not to "repaint" which might work or not, we'll see.
Concerning the "disregard" - though I know what you mean, I'd say that nowadays you simply can't approach a (commercial) game with the same attitude and style like the first one in the 80s. The original design of Rick screams "lawsuit" and I'm sure no real fan of the series wants the stupid red mask from the US version. Imo it makes sense to "beef" him up significantly in order to compete with characters like Kratos and the Hulk. It's like controling the monster and not the hero anymore.
When it comes to the graphical style, I must say I like the new comic book vibe though I also hope that Rick isn't "hulked up" all the time. What I don't like is the bright color palette...hope they make it a little bit darker and more grainy.
All in all the whole thing looks quite interesting so far. Whether it'll be interesting enough to shell out 60 Euros is another question...

I don't care much about either Kratos or the Hulk. That's why I'm on this forum. BottleRocket has given one of the most unique games of the eighties a terribly generic westernization. That's a bad thing, no matter how you put it.

It's not Splatterhouse any more, so why not leave it be and come up with something original?
