I merely said that it's a hell of a lot cheaper to buy, and works on an NES without needing a convertor. For the sake of convenience, it works. I really don't see an NES reproduction of a Famicom game or prototype NES game as being a whole lot different from a ROM...just easier to play using the system's controller. Still illegal. Still "immoral" if you will. But if I'm willing to give another classic gaming aficionado a couple bucks and a cartridge to put a new rom chip in, I'm going to lose about as much sleep over that as I would digging around online to find the roms.Ceph wrote:This:Dragon1952 wrote: What else have I said that warrants my posts being edited? You advise people to buy bootlegs, giving money to pirates.Dragon1952 wrote:With what you just said about NES only, forget what I said and get the RePro RECCA for the NES!
And yes, the same goes for ubersaurus and Battlesmurf.
I mean, what's next? Will we advise everyone to go and buy bootleg Cave PCBs, because "the originals are just so damn expensive"?
I'm not pointing out where one can get these, but it wouldn't be very proper if I'm not pointing out the option is there. The guys making these aren't any worse than the guys who make reproductions of prototype cartridges for Atari machines. Are those bootlegs as bad as say, Dreamcast boots of commercially available games, or neo geo ones from back in the day? I really can't put them in the same boat.
This being way off topic, I want to redirect this back to the subject at hand.
My friend is a big fan of Dragon Spirit. Although it's available on other platforms, there is an NES port. There's also some good ports of Defender 2 and Galaga if you're into the classic gaming.
Oh, and as a kid, I dug 1942 and Sky Shark a lot! Although 1942 has the most annoying musical loop ever, and Sky Shark is brutally hard.

I edited the offending sentence in my earlier post. My apologies for that...Dragon1952 wrote:PC Engine Fan,
You are WRONG, I did NOT post pictures of what you said. My posted pictures show totally legal cartridges so please correct your post.
I do NOT own any illegal game merchandise and I never will regardless of how much I may want a game that is difficult to obtain. Someone else posted those pictures but it was NOT me!

Well- sorry if I stirred anything up. Dragon pointed out that he was offended by my post- and I did right by him as I respect what he thinks. I have already taken note of those set of forum rules mentioned by BM- and I'm okay with that too and have long since changed my posts to reflect that.
Sorry I stirred any stuff up. It's just hard as crap to suggest to someone one of the best shooters ever made- and not really sure how to suggest they play it!
All that being said- BACK TO THE TOPIC- Abadox is a winner in my book as well. Very cheap to get ahold of- and just an all around neat title. Also- does Solar Jetman count?

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad my first thread on these forums garnered some attention.
Yeah I just played Abadox for the first time today. Great game. Same with Life Force. I haven't tried Guardian Legend yet, and Image Fight is OK but I know that there are much better versions of it to play so I don't think it will put in too much time with the NES version. It's nice to have it for collection purposes though, considering it was only $0.99.
My main sources of SHMUP gaming are Dreamcast, PS2 and MAME and those will still receive most of my effort as far as building the collections, but my small but ever growing NES collection (SHMUP and other) will hold a special place in my heart as I'm sure it will for many of my generation (I'm 25) whose first real gaming was done on the NES.
Next I really want to get a JP PCE/CD, and I plan on turning to this forum for help when the time comes to figure out what I need to get/games/etc. I owned a US TG-16 when it was new but really don't know much else about NEC consoles.
Thanks again!
P.S. Rob's thread that was linked on the first page of his Top 40 NES SHMUP Countdown was great entertainment.

What's the name of that Namco Air Fortress-alike where the first boss is a giant monster named Kissy?
EDIY: NM, it's called Baraduke.
EDIY: Apparently Kissy is actually the main character?

Not that there's anything wrong with the NES version.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

just my opinion, maybe its because i played and loved the NES version first and expected something similar from the arcade version, preference aside im sure we can both agree theyre nothing alike.Ghegs wrote:This is a huge lie right here.sven666 wrote:cannot believe anyone hasent mentioned section-zthat game is awesome (as opposed to the arcade version which sucks ass), cheap as hell too, get it more!!

Yeah, of course.sven666 wrote:just my opinion, maybe its because i played and loved the NES version first and expected something similar from the arcade version, preference aside im sure we can both agree theyre nothing alike.
I just love how in the arcade version the stages seamlessly connect to each other. Makes the game world feel whole.

Buria Fighter is excellent... has anyone played the GB version (and liked it)?

No ISO trading, ROM begging, bootlegging, modchip sales, copyright infringement, or assistance with any of these – for example warez FTP site details. It doesn't matter what is legal in your country, there are no exceptions to this rule – although discussion of emulation is not a problem.LGB wrote:Just like when you post links to emulators and talk about emulators, you're advertising roms. Even if there are no roms at any links. Same situation. No matter the loophole.
Note the last few words. It's like that for a reason, there are 80+ games I can play in MAME legally, for example. We make no assumptions as to what people are or are not legally allowed to emulate. To be sure, the VAST majority of people playing MAME games are doing so 'illegally', but this is not our problem - as long as the forum is not considered a source or route to obtaining them.
Discussing the existence of NES bootleg carts is also perfectly acceptable, as long as there are no links to ones for sale, suggestion that people /should/ obtain them, or attempts to sell them here. For example a film magazine could write an article about how to spot a pirated DVD. It's always been a difficult one to draw the line on, because some bootleg items are of technical or historical interest. I might change the last line to 'discussion of emulation or bootleg hardware is not a problem'.
Please try to work with us on this sensibly, it's difficult due to the nature of this hobby, to totally banish anything questionable, but also be a useful place for discussion.
