On my PC? They're all funky shaped though.
I thought about making some normal ones, but never got around to it.

That's exactly what they are. No mounting. The Dell 24" standard monitor (the slightly more expensive one) has a stock rotating stand. If you want to get an idea of my workspace size, take a look here. It's 2400 width though.

I don't play games on it really, except trying out some stuff in emulation. It's for work. I really do need two monitors since I have xterminals up all over the place. I need to tail logs, while looking config files, code, porn, and other shit. So, I use all of my real estate quite well. I just don't have the desk space to leave them both in their default horizontal orientation.

The hardest part was getting X to play along. Took the greater part of a day. Seems that TwinView plus rotation = ass rapery. I found some really obscure HowTo in a mail list archive which solved the problem. Definitely owe that guy a beer, as I would've never figured it out. I should definitely backup my xorg.conf file too!

Would someone care to make this into an aspect ratio usable as a wallpaper? I suspect it's something I processed from the mushi sprite rips ages ago... Anyway, I lack the photoshop skills to extend the background cleanly. Making it big and clean at 2560x1600 would be great, too.

What sucks is there's not enough horizontally oriented art out there. I've got plenty but it's all vertical. Makes for crappy wallpapers, unless you don't mind half the screen being some solid color.

Do you mind uploading your config file? I am interested, since I might try out a setup like this in the future. If you could mark the section which you had problems with it would be a nice addition.

Since you spoke of a lot of terminals.. did you ever thought about using a tiling window manager, such as wdm or ion?

What the heck is going on in that image, anyway? I've wondered since I saw it as that guy's side art.

Sure, no problem:
http://pastebin.com/m31b4c886
It'll be there for a month.

I can't remember specifically, but you should definitely note commented out parts that look like they are TwinView or randr related... sepcifically the MetaModes which are commented out under Screen. Those are apparently a nono. If I'm not mistaken, this is the key:

Code: Select all

Option	"TwinviewOrientation" "DFP-0 Above DFP-1"
Option	"RandRRotation" "true"
Then in ServerLayout:

Code: Select all

  Option	"Xinerama" "false"
  Option	"RandR" "on"
  Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
  Screen 1	"Screen1" Below "Screen0"
Seems superfluous, but hey, it worked. Xinerama off is also important.
If you're just going single rotated monitor, any of the randar tutorials should work.
Since you spoke of a lot of terminals.. did you ever thought about using a tiling window manager, such as wdm or ion?
Nah, I'm a KDE whore. konsole can hold a shitload of tabbed terminals, so I'm good.
Not everyone has a rotatable monitor.
And?
that is a real nice set up there
I'm sure my mom will flip out when she comes and visits next time. It definitely works though.

Maybe I've got a Tsukasa Bullet here somewhere w/ some thing yoko-ish.

Not at all. The problem is that the background is textured, and putting it on a flat background looks weird. Scaling it up and putting a background can be done in my WM... I just want something the background will connect to cleanly.

GP, question for you: Do those monitors have a 10cm VESA mount? I have the 3008WFP, sticking a rotating stand on it would be awesome. Or maybe there's a reason it didn't get one.

And not everyone has a rotatable monitor for GLORIOUS vertical wallpapers like you do. Which aren't even in the correct aspect ratio or cropped properly. What a waste.

I have no idea what you're talking about. You can only upscale the image to fit a certain resolution vertically before it reaches a limit (in this case 1600), or you could result to stretching it completely which makes it look like garbage. If you want to get technical about it, do it yourself or find out how.

I'm sorry, but what? Does a correct aspect ratio for two monitors tate'd even exist?

Whatever.. I can't tolerate monitors on their side personally, feels weird. So.. I compensate by making my own Cave wallpapers. I'm currently using a Dodonpachi Daioujou + Ketsui combo that I made, in celebration of them being announced for the 360. See what I mean:

Image

I made this from high res flyer art, and it looks pretty good. Except that the Cave logo cuts off bottom right when you're actually using it.

well impressed with these mate , look real nice , would you be able to do just a ketsui and a DDP on its own or would it look to stretched ?

Thanks

considering those are widescreen monitors if tated together they really just make a VERY big approx. 4:3 screen.....

i wanted to do the same thing with 2 4:3 monitors but i only had one mount....

I just did, and it looks fine. The only difference is that the image size isn't constrained correctly, so each image (Ketsui and DDP) has been stretched to meet each other.

Considering all these scans of flyers exist, I might make some more soon.

Edit: Were you requesting or just asking how it would turn out?
