I'm going to *gasp* attempt to post on-topic.

I've been playing NMH for a while now (currently ranked 4th) and it's a helluva awesome game. I didn't like Killer 7 because it really felt like it put style before gameplay. The game was just not fun to play, even though I did love the style and story and stuff. I was cautious going into NMH because of this, and in some ways I can see the same style from Suda51, but at the same time I absolutely love the game. It has all the style and awesomeness of Killer 7, but it's actually FUN TO PLAY! The missions/jobs are a little tedious, ad the open-world traveling, but the actual ranked fights are so much fun I can completely overlook the rest of the game.

Also, during the 4th rank mission, is the best dream sequence in all of video games. I won't spoil it, because it took me by complete surprise and it was better because of it. Suffice it to say most people here will enjoy that part.

I rather like the game, but it definitely isn't because of the gameplay. Looks, atmosphere and character are definitely worth something and NMH has those in spades. Yet that definitely isn't enough to garner it more than a cult following. People completely writing it off I think are missing something great that has been accomplished by this game, as are the people who are heaping praise on it. NMH isn't great, but its something...

There's quite a funny video review of No More Heroes here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/article ... ore-Heroes

It sums up quite a lot of what's been said in this thread in snappy manner.

I still can't understand why people keep on harping on about the games quirkyness coming at the expense of fun. I still think NMH is the best beat 'em up ever made, and it still would be if it were stripped of everything else. It certainly pisses on Godhand

FAIL

Edit: although your link to the video review was pretty much dead on.

I usually agree with Yahtzee, but if NMH is a GTA clone, then every RPG ever made is a Final Fantasy clone.

It's called a genre people, c'mon.

I thought that assertation is particularly stupid. In Myst, you wonder around a series of sprawling locations, which form a hub for other locations. Therefore Myst is a GTA clone.

Ooooh you so got him. Ironically, Killer 7 is pretty close to a point and click game with a faster pace and worse puzzles.

Yup. It perfectly captures the fun of early 90's point and clicks. A bit too easy, of course.

NMH rules.

That is all, I haven't been around in a while and just wanted to take a moment to cash in on the actual topic of this thread.
I got mad gigabytes.
