icycalm emulator. You put in a random statement (the grass is green) and you get an insult hurled back at you. With PHP and a few minutes, it could easily be done. Doesn't require a prescription of Ritalin either.Twiddle wrote:How am I going to feel better about myself now

There needs to be a Icycalm reality show on MTV or something.
1st season would document Icycalms return to Japan and him living in a place that is a minutes walk from Paul. Hilarity would ensue whilst the two constantly argue over ridiculous things while hanging around in arcades playing Cave games.
Yeah, that would be awesome.

In all fairness it is easy to see where Icycalm is coming from. He wants to look at games in a traditional academic/analytic manner and get away from all the diletantism and subjective opinions that surrounds them. What he doesn't seem to get is that there are lot's of people on this site alone that could do that, who for some reason don't. Just what the reason is for that is something for him to ponder on.
It is powerup of laser.

About icy(un)calm: People who keep losing their temper amuse me, as do people who feel the need to constantly hurl vulgarities at everyone/resort to verbal violence.
Also, I agree with it290's post: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 131#349131

How nostalgic.
He just made engaging debate competitive and unpleasant. We can all disagree without being nasty, but not Icy. A shame, because part of me warmed to his humour and sense of silliness. I wonder what he was like in real life? Was shmups.com a place for his alter ego or was he just a real jerk.? I guess we'll never know..
I actually agree with this one though - shock horror, an Icycalm statement that got straight to the point!GaijinPunch wrote:I still think my Guwange review is too long.If they can describe the game play in a few paragraphs and tell me it's not a waste of my money, I'm quite happy. But what needs cutting?!

It's so hard to cut down word count when your done with a draft. I hate having to do it as all the rules you can apply while writing for the first time (No wasted words, never use two when you can use one - all that kind of thing) are hard to apply.
It's also hard being strict with yourself when you have no strict wordcount to adhere to in the first place. Is there one here for shmups.com reviews? If not I'd say next time set one and go for too low rather than too high as adding words is so much nicer than taking away.
For Guwange, it's all good stuff I reckon, so you might just have to go through the pain of running through and editing it bit by bit. It's surprising how much you can can slash by approaching it with 'how can I make that sentence more concise/adroit?', just one line at a time, but it's slow going. Other than that, there's the news journalism approach wankily called the 'information triangle'. The more important the info is the more words it gets and the nearer the top it goes. The less important for the reader the less words it gets and further down it goes, until the least important stuff drops out the bottom of the article. Thing is, thats a model for creating rather than restructuring an article...
Also mate, I'm gonna PM you soon about your book and The Argus..
