Same here. My television spends 95% of the time tate'd, and hooked up to the NeoGeo the rest of the time it is not. I haven't played games for a month though and in preparation for moving I am going to go the rest of the month without a television set too.Skyline wrote:Life without having a TV would be tough. Some of these responses kinda remind me of this Onion article.
I could live without it, but why deprive yourself? Sure, 99.9% of TV sucks, but there's some good stuff too.
I probably watch 5-10 hours of TV per week, 2-3 hours of that being Simpsons and Family Guy repeats while I eat dinner.
I'd probably watch a lot more if I had Tivo and a better cable package (I have the super basic package because it's practically free with the cable modem). There are a few shows that I like but never watch because they're too late for me or I don't get the channel they're on (Conan, The Daily Show, and some Adult Swim stuff).

I barely have time for broadcast TV anymore and there's nothing I like anymore that's on. I've recently discovered the Office and the Daily Show, both of which I kinda like. I also watched every episode of American Gladiators this past season.
School keeps me busy until the summer and winter. My free time is usually spent fooling with my new HDTV and PS3, watching wrestling and old sitcoms, spending time with my wife and dog, and studying Japanese. I just got a HD Cable at my place and I really don't like it much.

That's classic. There is nothing at all impressive about not watching TV.Davey wrote:Some of these responses kinda remind me of this Onion article.
PaCrappa> That so describes my own life. I'm with you. Once you get out of the TV addiction, there isn't much reason to go back.

Ha! Rob, I full believe there is good TV. Some of the great stuff has been pointed out to me, but I can't get back to it as a life style. I'm not trying to lord my divorce from Television, or be all snobbish about it; but for anyone who has gone multiple years without TV; they know what I mean.Rob wrote: WE HAVE TO GO BACK, KATE.

I haven't really watched TV in 7 years. The few times i've turned one on i quickly regretted it. Gotta agree with Ceph on this one - it's just one huge-ass commercial 24/7.
However, i watch a lot of TV shows and movies, just not on a TV - i download them. Am i living without TV?

its sad but true of family life in britain.. i reckon most "normal" people would strangle each other or go on murder sprees if they had their tvs taken awayjpj wrote:i was talking to a friend the other day who said he was near suicidal when our city was hit by the floods, just cuz he couldn't watch tv![]()

Don't own a TV set. Get letters every month from the TV Licensing people, even though I've advised them I don't own one.
Consoles get played on a projector, along with any videos (TV/movie). No adverts, no brainless programming.
Most recent thing I've watched and enjoyed was Dexter. And then went and read the books (better). Anything else tends to be old Britcom.
Passive entertainment needs to be really, really fucking good for me to enjoy it.

Actually, RGC reminded me of something.
You know what rocks about TV? The chance to have new stuff thrown at you that you've never seen or even heard of before.
Of course, most viewers (myself included) would stick to a single channel. I find that I like most things thrown my way, so sometimes spinning the wheel pays off.
The Red Skelton compilation ads...good stuff right there.
