I think I may have almost 1cc'ed Gradius arcade...

Let's get this out of the way-I suck at these games. I think 5 years worth of RPG's, Sims, and other hooplah have drained any skill that I may have had back in the day (I've beaten NES Contra without using a continue or a code years ago...). Simply put, I suck.

Tonight I decided to fire up my Nemesis/Gradius ROM, and got into a really good train of thought and levels were whizzing by. I got by the Moai, wallcanoe, brain stages rather easily. Extends racked up, and I was over 250,000 points.

But then this greenish mechanical stage came about (I didn't keep track of which stage number I was up to, I was way too excited by thoughts of finishing the game) and good goddamn, bullets everywhere...I keep losing all my lives in one section, and then Game Over.

Anyways, I wanted to know what stage I was on, so I digged around and found this image which looked similar to the stage I was on-



So should I be crying or smashing something over being robbed of a 1cc or what???

If you get to the last stage with a couple of lives you should be okay as it's easy-peasy with the rank right down. I never 1CCed there though.

That's the last stage. It's most definitely the hardest stage with the sheer number of bullets that fly at you.

Gradius was my first arcade 1CC last year. I just decided to do it one night and kept playing until I 1CC'd it. Just keep trying and you'll get past the last level.

I've cleared it both by getting to it with 4 options, as well as dying and having to go through from scratch (though that's pretty difficult for me).

I 1cc'd this game on the saturn which I assume is a arcade perfect port.

For me it was just luck, I didn't lose my options except once, where I was able to get them back again quickly. I don't remember that green stage though.
