VT2 all the way, I prefer it to VT3. VT3 is the same game, remade, but not improved (AT ALL) So I don't understand what happened with VT3. I guess it's like the SF2 HD Remake. But VT3 has weird stuff in it and the enjoyment is much less.

As for Sega Superstars, I played the demo on ps3 and I don't like it because every player has this glowing star surounding him and it makes it hard to see if you actually made the shot/how close you were when you missed. And I am too old for Sega Superstars, so unless everybody else gives playability a high ranking I would be cautious.
VT2 Dreamcast 480p VGA goodness!
I play now VT2 ps2 version, but that is 480i and the image is blurry, yet I can play with remote controllers, huraaayh!
VT2 DC > VT2 PS2 > VT1 DC > VT3 PS3.

(btw, anyone remembers that old Ubisoft tennis game on the amiga? pro tennis tour or something like that. Played almost as well as virtua tennis and had great graphs for the time. The official game came with a souvenir tennis ball too iirc.')
It was called Great Courts. Or Great Courts II :D. I haven't played the 1st one, but II was awesome. It took some time to get the gripes with it, but I'd say the game is more complex than Virtua Tennis.

Virtua Tennis 2 is good for a quick blast. There are more realistic Tennis games around, but VT2 is the most acessible and more fun to play.

Sega Superstars has a more complicated button layout than VT2, but it's not hard to get the gripes with it. The special moves are kinda silly, and the gameplay isn't as refined as in VT2... at least on the PS2 version, which is the one I've played it. I wouldn't bother with it for now if you don't have VT2.

I remember a 1984ish ping pong game by Konami on an MSX emulator that I liked
It's called Konami's Ping-Pong, it's also on arcades, emulated on Mame 100%. If you play it on max speed it becomes a really exciting game to play against a friend.

Yep. The controls did not feel as tight as the N64 version as well to me. Virtua Tennis 2 is all ya need.

VT2 DC > VT2 PS2 > VT1 DC > VT3 PS3.
But if VT3 is the same game and VT2 is really good, what's the problem? Isn't it nice to be able to play VT3 in HD? By now it's probably pretty cheap as well for the PS3.

IMO, there is no problem; I'd go ahead and get both. They're both cheap, awesome games.

There are people who prefer VT1 over VT2. It's all a matter of opinion. I think Virtua Tennis is one of the greatest series and you can't go wrong with any of the games in the franchise.

My personal favorite would have to be VT2 (aka Tennis 2k2 or Power Smash 2). I only feel this way because the game strikes a good balance--a bit more complex than VT1 and yet not as difficult as VT3.

Bumping a rather old thread, but Sega Superstars Tennis is only 20 bucks now. I think I'm gonna buy it and it would be cool to have some people to play it online with. It's worth it just for the fanservice alone at that price. I was surprised when I found out you could even unlock

Yeah, once it turned $20 I picked it up for the Wii. Seems good so far, but I've hardly spent half an hour with it. The control set up with the nunchuck is pretty intuitive and fun.

I wonder how many people suffered sight damage because of that bastardization of a 'portable' system.

I want to buy a Virtual Boy again sometimes. Had one when it came out. Galactic Pinball was one of the best pinball games ever made. And I'd like to get Vertical Force because I've never played it. Maybe do a review for shmups as well.

But back on topic, if I get Sega Superstars Tennis I'd probably get the 360 version. Easy achievements and bloom effect wooo

How's the Top Spin series? There is one coming out for the Wii, and I hope they get the motion controls done right.
