poll has been added of the shortlisted names. i couldn't fit all the options on there unfortunately. so also running are:
Bloke Called Dave
Third Leg Long
C-UNIT
Avril Lavigne Tribute Band
Apocolyptic Blues Rock
Death Label
p.s. is there a market for a band that plays 10-minute overdriven instrumental versions of Little Wing?

Yeah OK, that was a little harsh, but extended jams are only fun for musicians; the audience, by and large, does not care. If you wanna go the blues/rock route, definitely try to copy AC/DC, the Blues Explosion, and to a lesser extent Zeppelin more than Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead. Yeah copy.jpj wrote:you suck
Or just don't listen to me, I'm not trying to be the band police or anything.
what type of music is it?

maybe it was a bad example on my part. we do play other (shorter) more structured songs. but obviously certain blues music leaves itself wide open to improvisation. i disagree with you on the extended jams bit; i think it's just different tastes. but as i'm sure you know, the way someone who plays an instrument listens to music is totally different to someone who doesn't play anything (or is a singer). if other people don't like it, that's fine too - we aren't crowd-pleasers. only in it for a bit of funNeon wrote:Yeah OK, that was a little harsh, but extended jams are only fun for musicians; the audience, by and large, does not care. I think it's more like this: the way someone playing an instrument hears their own music is totally different to someone who is listening. It might sound amazing while doodling on a guitar, but it really isn't.jpj wrote:the way someone who plays an instrument listens to music is totally different to someone who doesn't play anything
But yeah... people do like this/anything. Though if you're that convinced that you aren't a "crowd pleaser" why even bother with a name? Just jam for fun with your bandmates.
Too late, he already asked what we thought (lol gaming tribute name by a band which probably won't be a gaming tribute band)indstr wrote:you'd be a fucking retard if you used any band name suggested by shmups forum members
In reality, we came up with a fairly good number of choices. Pity none of them are in the poll.
p.s. Rob is 100% correct. And I agree with MR_Soren too.
You know I had to vote for Mr. Candypants. That said, I think C-UNIT would be pretty sweet if you kerned the logo nicely, but then again I'm a sucker for that kind of crap.
Or the reverse... I don't play an instrument (used to play guitar a bit), but I do DJ, and I generally bag on my mixing way harder than most of the people listening. Then again, DJing and playing an instrument are really totally different other than a few basic similarities, unless you're doing the whole turntablism thing, which I only dabble with.I think it's more like this: the way someone playing an instrument hears their own music is totally different to someone who is listening. We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
that's just how it works i'm afraid. i don't make suggestions that are agreeable to you - it's the other way aroundEd Oscuro wrote:we came up with a fairly good number of choices. Pity none of them are in the poll.
what were your 15-20 favourites from the thread (feel free to use them yourself)
indeed. i think most musicians would agree that they are their own worst criticOr the reverse...

i'm not sure how you think i suggested that people should care (?), only for people to put some ideas out there. if you think i passed by some names that are good, use them yourself or something.
