TOM-STGT Week 4: Andro Dunos

Post by Macaw »

Andro Dunos

ARCADE, NEO GEO
ALL DEFAULTS
ANY KIND OF AUTOFIRE ALLOWED

Totally awesome game. One of the best examples of exceptional use of a standard space theme. Awesome early 90's atmosphere (it was made in 92 after all!) thanks to the great soundtrack and ship/enemy designs.

Greatest feature is without doubt the stage designs. All kinds of awesome stuff happens during stages, heaps of mini-bosses, sudden changes of scrolling direction, excitement and overall awesomeness.

SCORING SYSTEM

Also! First horizontal game so far this tourny!

Also! Another totally awesome game that doesn't yet have a high score thread in this forum.

Dammit Macaw. You were right. Your game selection has been good. I should have joined up (despite the usual lack of playing time).
Me and my mate KAC used to 1 C to the last stage of the second loop on Andro Dunos when it was in the arcade. Big shame I never wrote down my score. Anyway, anyone who 2-ALLs this one will have beaten us.

I'm matched with kozo again. Well, I'll try a bit.

I wasn't incredibly impressed with this game's lackluster early Neo Geo big-sprites-without-detail fetishism, but I'll give it another shot.

Kinda sad that you didn't go for something crazy obscure, but we've already had an Allumer game, and I really shouldn't complain about how that turned out for me :D

I dunno, this game seems kinda obscure to me. Something like Pulstar would be non-obscure.

I thought I played a lot of shmups, but if we count the original selections for the first two weeks, I'd be 4/4 right now in games I haven't played before, so good job Macaw!

This is a nice game, much less annoying than the last one.

Some are, some aren't. There are a few in the first five stages that you only get a couple seconds to reveal them.

Actually, I think the game loops infinitely

Ahh thats probably true. We never did the final stage of the second loop  to find out. I have a vague recollection of my score as 1,444,000'ish, which seems to tie-in with the current 1st loop scores.

This game is pretty fun, but I can't get autofire to work for this game in MameP. Does anyone know how to do this? I already tried different delays, nothing works here :S
Got tired of all the Z mashing in stage 1, so had to quit.

I have the latest, autofire fails.
Decided to try anyway since this game is awesome:

Autofire helps greatly in this game. Bosses can be point blanked with Type-1 and killed in seconds.

That sounds very reasonable. I wouldn't pick up another version of MAME to make use of the autofire, but Christ this game is so long I wouldn't want to inflict that on anybody else
