I just tried it out. Not bad, but not all that amazing either. Maybe if you're a big Raiden or Psikyo fan you'll enjoy this style. The mistake it makes a LOT (and shares in common with psikyo games) is to do fast spread-out patterns layered with fast or slow aimed shots at the same time. The combination of those types of patterns, to me, feels really cheap and relies on memorization to get through.

Air Gallet =
Great Graphics, music, sound, and expecially set pieces, like the boat crashing into the robot, the space shuttle lauch, fight over the tower, etc..
Some monotonous level design even though the graphics are great.
Weak weapons, mostly to weak without rapid fire. Very hard game. Last levels are just crazy hard. Some un-balanced, long boss fights.
Great for credit feeding and dropping bombs like crazy. It's also got some wierd thing where you move really fast sometimes- I think it's if you travel all across the screen and then do a spin, then you start zipping around for a bit. Is that it? I've never been able to use in mid-combat.
Very stylistic and cool game. It would get lots of serious study and play if it was your only PCB.
You're socks will seriously just blast right off your feet.

Random observations from the intro
hey this is a FLIGHT SITUATION
#2: "Waist Cat Officer"
Immediately after: "hey the back of the plane looks like a face"
#4: Seems dangerous to be yapping about a single bogey at 2 O'Clock when you're engaged with a whole group of them
I hate getting point-blanked in this game. Game seems claustrophobic.
#6: Hey, I shot down the Buran.

Got 607,160 in my first (rather short) play session. Nice to see it's by Toaplan - the game seems more like Twin Cobra II than Twin Cobra II does. Like the crazy variety of enemies and stuff too.
Random Thought:
If it's "Air Garret," where's the "blackjack the enemy ships and steal their cheese" option? The world needs stealth thievery + bullet hell.

And of all the reasons to detest a game...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yti-XCezbl0
Look at Zandkun's post. Do you get the feeling he didn't notice the SSDF emblazoned on one of the shuttle's wings? (Granted, it's not THAT easy to see with the video's resolution...) Or that the pilots themselves have an American accent? And then there's the shuttle's cargo—a military satellite. Zandkun, I don't think that's an American shuttle you're looking at. (Now if I could just find Air Gallet's backstory—the one at Digital Monkey doesn't count, and the Japanese Wikipedia was no help—and find out what SSDF is supposed to stand for...I'm pretty sure Somalia is not the villain here) {sigh} Although his nationalism quotient might be a bit high. I can see how the space shuttle would signify hope...but justice? I...don't see the causality.
(Nobody let him see The Ninja Warriors. He'd get an apoplexy...)

Zandkun is either a horrible retard or a good troll.
Experience leads me to assume he's a retard, unfortunately. It would be a great troll post though.
I'm not sure what SSDF stands for but it's probably Soviet, since that is a Soviet design you're looking at.
The Buran's plans were stolen (sort of, NASA didn't classify the work) by the Soviets after some smart military types scared old Brezhnev with tall tales of an American "space bomber."
TBH, waste of a damn good machine. The Soviets flew the Buran into space and back on autopilot, pretty darn impressive if you ask me!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRXNcQ8q3cA <- These are as close to the original Soviet video as I can find...the soundtracks certainly sound period-accurate!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezui-jpKvys This is how it would sound if Cave were making the game and Activision released it here ;D

That MSNBC article seems to be very well researched (sarcasm). I stopped reading there:Ed Oscuro wrote: The Buran's plans were stolen
Buran's one and only space flight was in 1988.MSNBC wrote:Although the Soviet shuttle flew only once in 1990

Yes, that date is obviously wrong. Nitpick on the date if you want, but how do you account for the first-person recollections of members of the Soviet defense industry? ;)Ceph wrote:That MSNBC article seems to be very well researched (sarcasm).
Remember also the date of this CNN production; by 1997 the Soviet bureaucracy was long gone and what remained was less efficient (if not unwilling to part with some secrets).
