Mushihime-sama or under defeat......

Post by Bigsasquatch »

My 4th cab comes in the next week or so, so will be Tateing one of the AWSD's for Ikaruga........

I already have the following Cave boards:

ESP Rade , Galuda , Galuda 2
DDP , DDP DOJ
IBara

My remaining spend budget means the 2 titles I have in mind are:

Under Defeat - Naomi or.....
Mushihime-sama PCB

I haven't played either .... on the one hand it would be good to have something else in 31K to swap out with Ikaruga.......and I haven't 1CC'd any of the other Cave titles yet.....

But on the other hand I'm loving the Cave stuff.......

Can't decide, so would appreciate comments from those who have played the 2 titles......

Cheers

Under Defeat, I thought I was a Cave fan and I realized Mushi was boring for me.

flip a coin.. both are excellent titles.

UD is more oldschool without a superspecific scoringsystem while mushi is the opposite, purple bullethell with the most complicated scoringsystem you'll ever find.
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

UD looks beyond superb and is pretty bloody difficult and as you already have many cave boards id go for UD .

I was surprised at how mundane UD was.

As has been said before, if you already have several Cave games, then maybe you should go with Under Defeat for some diversity. UD isn't G-Rev's best work, though (that is Border Down). Personally I would have enjoyed UD much more if there was a deeper scoring system and if the main weapon could be powered up. That's not to say the game doesn't work well (it does), but somehow it feels basic.

Under Defeat for some of the best explosions you'll ever see in any medium.

You'll tire of UD quickly, though it is pretty awesome (imo GRevs best game). Mushi is almost oceanic in its depth, however, and has three very different game modes.

It's difficult to advise you, because UD and Mushi are about as diffent from each other as it is possible to get

Under Defeat IMO. With all those Cave games, why not a change of pace? UD is about the best change of pace you'll find. It may be 'basic' but it's still a damn good challenge and really maximizing scoring will take you quite a while.

I think Mushi has more longevity. UD is moves from very basis feeling to frustratingly hard at around level 3, so it's hard for me to play it over and over. Excellent graphics, though, and if you've had enough cave, you should get it.

I think, most importantly, you can buy shiki 2, psyvariar 2, trizeal......I looked back and saw that you already have naomi gd-rom.
For the price of mushi, you could get all those naomi games.

Yeah, both of the games you mention are playable, but why not get Shiki 2, Psyvariar 2, or even Gunbird 2? These should all be higher on your list unless you already have them.

UD.

It'll be a nice change up since you already own some more recent Cave offerings.

I'd go with Mushi, why play Under Defeat on Naomi when you can have it on Dreamcast?

Under Defeat is a very gorgeous, and very cool game. The simplicity is refreshing at first, and still fun for a run through every now and then, but in all honesty it gets old fast. The pacing is far too slow. Once you start to learn a good path with the missile launcher, you'll find very long stretches in stages where nothing is firing at you.

Mushihimesama is loads of fun, however, and as a Cave fan, it tends to never get old. It's ranked kind of low for me as far as Cave games go, but I still like it and play it a lot. Also, the Stage 3 music > All =P The scoring system is typical Cave chaining with an odd rhythmic twist, and is much more forgiving than the DDPs.

Also, the DC port of UD > PS2 port of Mushi quality-wise. So Mushi is definitely the one you'd want to get a PCB of. UD is fine on the Dreamcast, Mushi is kind of bleh on the PS2.

I have both and love both. If you don't mind a more old school approach to bullets made interesting by a quirky angle/option system and sexy graphics give UD a try. I think Tops still have new kits at 47,250. Its held its value well that one.

mushi is a terribly broken game in many ways. the scoring system requires really awkward / ridiculous (and complicated) tapping and the collision detection is way, way fubar. you fly through a storm of bullets that in no way you could ever have survived and yet you do survive. yet, despite all its flaws, i seriously love mushihimesama.

under defeat looks really fancy with the dramatic explosions but i have never been able to squeeze any joy out of the game. also think that the scoring technique is a bit strange. the amount of lives you've lost on the first stage is the multiplier for the rest of the game(?)

i'd choose mushi within a single heartbeat. i think it's fun, pretty and has good music and i can't say those things about under defeat but that may just be me.

I loves that Under Defeat. I'm a bigger fan of those old school type games to bullet hells with complicated scoring systems, so I may be a bit biased...but the game is very well done, and I played the crap out of it when it got released.

Mushihimesama, even tho I have never played under defeat. It's just that good. Tons of replay value, one of the best soundtracks imo and great art design.
