Amazon has a release date of Feb. 15th, which seems likely to me.

They're the only site I've come across that even has a release date for this game, much less a listing, no other site's do, so I wouldn't count on that.Limbrooke wrote:http://www.ufointeractivegames.com/deta ... 2400&p=ps2Gwyrgyn Blood wrote:Guess there isn't a PS2 version now huh? That's a drag.

As I recall, Amazon was one of the only sites with a release date for Raiden 3 too. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when I say I didn't think that game had a chance of coming out at all.dave4shmups wrote:They're the only site I've come across that even has a release date for this game, much less a listing, no other site's do, so I wouldn't count on that.
The thing with UFO is that they like to take their time in releasing games and don't seem to have a problem only letting a few people know when it's actually out. Which is to say, I'm pretty confident I'll have a copy of this game within the next few months or so and if not, then perhaps a few months afterwards.

Thanks TWE, so you've seen it in your local retail stores? I ordered from yesasia and as of today the status is still "searching from suppliers" after I received a notice of delayed release date. Anyway I think that's the last game I am expecting for a while, time to slow down.EOJ wrote:It was released in Japan on 12/20/2007

Gotcha, I didn't think Raiden 3 had a chance of coming out either. I hope this does get released over here.Limbrooke wrote:As I recall, Amazon was one of the only sites with a release date for Raiden 3 too. Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Famitsu is only worth it for the previews and interviews, almost no game gets above 7 unless it's a Zelda, Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy showing us that Japanese fan-boys are just as bad.
Trek trough the Galaxy on silver wings and play football online.

Has anyone heard anything additional about "Heavenly Guardian" since this thread was last active? UFO's site lists it as a "new release," so supposedly it's out, but I can't find any other info on it anyplace. IIRC Raiden III was released by these same guys, and I've seen copies of them in Gamestops regularly since then, so it's not like their past releases were quite so under-the-radar...wonder what's going on with this title?
It literally came out less than 2 days ago(around here). In a couple weeks some more info should come up.BulletMagnet wrote:Has anyone heard anything additional about "Heavenly Guardian" since this thread was last active? I'm on the fence for getting a copy for myself so I won't know for a while either.

It's turning into another Red Star. The game eventually trickles down after its release.. so we don't see the game for a couple of weeks.BulletMagnet wrote:Has anyone heard anything additional about "Heavenly Guardian" since this thread was last active? I'll just keep an eye out for it here.

I've seen copies for auction on eBay, and the sellers claim to have them in hand...at this point that's starting to sound like my only shot at getting this thing.Kiken wrote:I had placed an order with Game Crazy to get Heavenly Guardian. They called me up yesterday to tell me that the game had been cancelled.
So, Limbrooke, you've actually seen physical copies in stores up in your area (cause I haven't seen any here)?
This is the only one I'm seeing at the moment:BulletMagnet wrote:I've seen copies for auction on eBay, and the sellers claim to have them in hand...at this point that's starting to sound like my only shot at getting this thing.
Buy's Listing
At least the guy claims to have them on-hand (and not pre-purchased and awaiting stock).
The nearest to me, I called, and they claimed to have more than 1 on hand. This was over a week ago and chances are slim they still have them as I don't think I'll getting this as of yet. I can check now...Kiken wrote:So, Limbrooke, you've actually seen physical copies in stores up in your area (cause I haven't seen any here)?
yeah, still many copies as the guy told me. 20 bucks per.
'Only a fool trusts his life to a weapon.'
Still one copy sitting on the shelf here in Ottawa.....
I was definitely the only preorder in town, and the game isnt that good so I feel a little crazy putting money down for it.
P.S. Limbrooke check HMV they have games now, I know I've seen it there, they tend to always have a few copies of $20 budget games when they come out, oddly enough.

So apparently the game DOES exist - I finally managed to snag a copy on eBay, because I STILL don't see it in any shops around here. In case anyone is considering getting it, I'll post a handful of impressions...
As you might've expected, it's a pretty simple game - you walk around, you shoot stuff (4 types of weapon powerups to collect), you can roll, and you have 2 special attacks fueled by "snowballs" enemies leave behind. There is a scoring system of sorts - aside from your "regular" shots, you have a rabbit "option" trailing behind you who shoots snowballs that freeze enemies. If you can freeze a few enemies at once before destroying them all in one shot, you get some bonus points and extra snowball pickups - the best way to do this, however, is to use one of your special attacks to freeze a whole load of 'em at once (at some points you get a "warning buzzer" that a huge herd is on its way).
There are (I think) 8 stages in all - getting through them will likely take you awhile, since the game plays more like an "adventure" title than a shooter. You're encouraged to explore the whole area (which sometimes has several paths to follow) to find everything (including health and ammo upgrades and extra lives) - while it's dragged out somewhat it isn't very challenging when playing just to survive, as I got through without continuing on my first shot. However, note that 1) I didn't play for score, which requires you to use your special attacks more often, likely leaving you fewer to fall back on for survival, and 2) The game loops after finishing it, and some suicide bullets are added into the equation this time - however, enemies don't give them off when they're killed after being frozen, so you've got to adjust your strategy somewhat.
Graphics and sound are unremarkable, but not the soul-crushing, distracting display that some seem to think - outdated and somewhat plain more than outright ugly. There is a boss attack mode and a stage select, though you have to unlock them, the former by finding hidden snowman guys by using your special attack in the right places - any of the modes can be played in 2P, but neither player has a rabbit helper. Weapon balance is slightly off, but not totally broken (just avoid the "homing" weapon) and while dying resets your weapon level, you can usually get yourself powered back up relatively quickly. Cheap deaths are relatively rare, though a bit of memorization is needed in places.
Overall, if you're thinking of buying this for its shooter aspects, you'll probably want to hold off - "intense" moments are rather few and far between. If you want a cheap game to kill some free time with, you could do worse...just make sure you do get it cheap.

Just wanted to say that the game is out in Europe on 9th of may for Wii.
This is a confirmed(by Ninty) release date btw.
The game name is changed to "Legend of Sayuki" for Europe.
edit: ok, i do understand that they had to change(in a hurry probably) the art and design of the game to avoid rights-problems but they could at least give the damn snow some texture. or is it just the low quality of this youtube vid?
well, I DO like the saturn'ish zooming effects in the game. looks great

War is in my Heart -- Death is by my Side
What I want to know is whether it's as blurry and filtered as all the screenshots I've seen make it look like, or is that just people using shitty cables?
The original screenshots looked sharp and crisp—you could actually see the pixels. I can deal with "plain" graphics, but the ones on UFO's site look pretty smeary.
Might pick it up sometime down the road regardless, if I find it languishing in a bargain bin somewhere.

Well, I'm glad the display isn't an issue...just too bad about the rest of the game.PaCrappa wrote:Looks clean in RGB on my PVM.
But it's a shitass game and I'm glad it wasn't my money that got spent in finding that fact out. Not worth it, don't buy.

I'm still trying to understand why a new Kiki Kaikai gets canned when most of Taito's current library falls into three categories: compilations/ports, remakes, and shovelware...
