Import Gamecube recommendations, please

Post by greg »

I was given a Gamecube last summer as a belated birthday present. Since then, I've accumulated a bunch of domestic RPGs: Crystal Chronicles, Tales of Symphonia, and Evolution Worlds. I'm considering getting Skies of Arcadia, since I loved the DC version and the GC version has new stuff added to it. Despite this, I really haven't played my GC much at all yet.

Yesterday I had Undamned mod my Gamecube with a switch. Now I can finally play Mr Driller Drill Land! Yay. Any import Gamecube recommendations? I can easily skip shmups on the GC because the only ones worth getting are the ones I already have on the Dreamcast. I know of a Super Robot Taisen game for the GC. Anything else?

the naruto gekkitou ninja taisen series is a must have.
Even though im no Naruto-fan anymore, the games are very good, in a comparison to its PAL branch-games, which are hiliarous.

Ah yes, Kururin Squash. I have Kururin Paradise for the GBA and it is fun.

I think I'll pass on Naruto.... I just can't stand that show. I admit that the SFC Dragonball Z games were pretty decent, but it's still not enough for me to want to ever buy them because I despise the show.

The Adventure Island and Bonk remakes for the cube (and PS2) are pretty ace.

Don't let the smooth taste fool you.

I don't particularly care for the Naruto toon either, but Naruto as well as BS D.O.N both rock as fighting games.

I'm sure there was another topic on this some time ago, so you might want to search for it. As I recall, though, it had little to offer. So few titles, it seems. But that's the GC in general. The only imports I have are Shiki II and Star Soldier. Shiki II looks amazing-- at least as good as the DC port and approaching the XBOX port.

Kururin Squash is awesome, the full analog control feels like how it was meant to be played. The gimmick levels are somewhat annoying, though.

Battle Stadium D.O.N. is pretty good indeed, though it's a Smash Bros type of Brawler. Great fun on multiplayer.

It's the only Dragonball Z game I ever played that I found to be actually good... maybe it's because it was made by Raizing and not Bandai...

I enjoyed Chaos Field in import- some people don't enjoy it- but its one of my favourite gamecube games.

CF certainly is a better experience with the gamecube than the DC, at least on a television. So many roving turrets either way, though. Yeesh.

So few naomi games were ported to GCN. It seems to be well suited.

Gosh, I thought Chaos Field was such a lackluster first attempt. I've only played it on the Dreamcast, but I thought it was so extremely boring and I didn't bother buying it. All boss and no popcorn. Up until then, I had every shmup on the Dreamcast. I passed on this one as well as Trizeal. As far as Milestone shmups go, I really did enjoy Radilgy though. I haven't played much of Karasu though.

Star Soldier is indeed a must as is PC Genjin.

other import only (not sure if this goes for US, but for Europe it does):

Space Raiders.

And no Gamecube collection can be complete without Viewtiful Joe, SSB: Melee, Resident evil 4 and Killer 7 (acquired taste I admit but very cool and different). Get F-Zero if you like racing games, incredibly hard but amazingly beautiful and well made.

But if I can only recommend 1 import game: Star Soldier.
You'll love it.
