My PS3 starving for some Shmup action, anything!?
Are there any known or rumoured shmups in developement for the PS3/PSN? I would be happy with just a couple of good ones.

I have a bad feeling that if they ever release a Gradius 6, they will try to go completely 3D with the series, like Silpheed.BulletMagnet wrote:There are the rumors of Gradius 6, but as of now they're still just rumors.
Yea I'm also hoping Cave is coming to the rescue. As far as I know they have yet made no announcements of the current generation consoles. I believe they have low financial resources, so they will propably not start developing on current generation of consoles before there is a huge userbase.LGB wrote:I expect a future Cave game to be PS3. Ketsui or Daifukkatsu maybe?
Also, don't forget Everyday Shooter.
When it comes to other companies, Treasure appears to be 360 exclusive for now, according to an recent interview they said they don't have enough staff to develope on PS3 too (or something similar).
Alfa System and SKONEC appear to only have announced their future games for Wii and 360. Moss and Warashi are developing on the 360, have not made any announcements for PS3.
This is much to my annoyance, because basically none of the high profile shmup developers have announced working on anything for the PS3. I'm currently not a big fan of the 360, I owned one but sold it because it was so unreliable and the fans/drive made too much noise

The PS3 right now is going to have alot of the "arena" style shmups.
Some good ones that I have include Everyday Shooter, Stardust HD (which is excellent), Blast Factor (I like how the scoring works here), and a few others that I've not yet played. The PS3's selection is still a bit low, though, keep in mind; it hasnt been out as long as the 360, so it hasnt had time to build up a very large selection. But it's getting there, finally.
And the 360 has numerous ones as well.
One thing that I wanna say about the 360 though:
Dont assume it has "no good games" just because you mostly only hear about, like, FPS games for this console. The 360 has been out long enough to have developed an extremely diverse selection of games. I have about 8 full-retail games, and about 25 of the Live Arcade titles, and not ONE of those is an FPS. Dont like console FPS's. But I bought the 360 for everything BUT those. The system has ALOT to offer, but unfortunately, Microsoft, and various magazines, and whatever, only like to jabber about the FPS games.
Hell, for me, the price of the 360 was entirely worth it just for Senko no Ronde alone.
And if you have a PS3, you can understand that concept easily.... I always hear people saying they dont want one because "it has no good games". I myself went and bought the thing when I just couldnt resist WarHawk any longer, hah. And now I have a good number of games for it, and it's almost always on. Gets a good amount of use.
Each of the 3 big companies.... Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.... all have their fair share of screwball problems, particularly with marketing and business decisions.... but you shouldnt let those things get in the way of good games.
Oh, and about Cave.....
One thing that I've found a little odd, is how Cave announced "no more ports" awhile back..... and then POW, Ketsui DS?!?!?
My own personal theory is that they specifically didnt want to port to the PS2 any longer..... everyone always complains about those ports, and a BIG part of the reason for that is the PS2's inferior hardware, which just cannot handle it. And something about the way Sony designed the thing, causes it to have a strange problem with rendering sprites. So things get a little funky.....
So Im expecting SOMETHING from them likely for the PS3, though it's possible on either of the 3 consoles.
But, that'd be in their own good time.... Cave is not one to be rushed.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Well true the PS2 was a pretty shoddy piece of hardware, and it is likely that it would barely even cope with Caves new games. The low amount of memory made porting Cave games propably am difficult task.-Bridget- wrote:My own personal theory is that they specifically didnt want to port to the PS2 any longer..... everyone always complains about those ports, and a BIG part of the reason for that is the PS2's inferior hardware, which just cannot handle it. Good games should be the top priority, but the choice of an expensive console to play them is unavoidable and important.Strider77 wrote:christ... hasn't anyone figured out there are no good systems just good games.
First of all, there are good and bad companies. Sony being evil is a sufficient reason to avoid their products, such as the PS3.
Second, it can be safely assumed that any console of the current and past generation is powerful enough for great shmups: choosing a platform is a commitment to a past and future lineup of games.
The dearth of shmups for the PS3, even hoping for the best-case scenario of Cave etc. releasing, say, 3 exclusive ports over the next two years, makes it a bad choice regardless of technical merits; and if shmup players are already preferring the 360 and the Wii, one mostly for great original games and the other mostly for the VC, developers are unlikely to fight the trend and "rescue" an obviously unsuccessful platform.

Na dude, I am not missing out on anything.Erinu wrote:Have fun missing out on good games just because you don't like the console it's released for.
I am quite happy playing my CAVE STG's on my PS2.
i only want to play CAVE games or decent cool STG's on any next Gen system.
Whats the Xbox360 got going for it?
Raiden IV maybe?
RFJ, so farken what, i can play all 3 on MAME.
Whats the Wii got going for it? Crap farken all, Shiki 3? I can play
that on the PC.
The day CAVE releases any games on a next gen system is
the day ill pick one up.
Im not holding my breath.
Like i said if its going to be any system it will be the PS3.
Just my opinion.
Its got the best specs of any of the 3.
I refuse to buy a system that will blow up 30% of the time.
I refuse to buy a system thats marketed to children.
So that only leaves the PS3 or nothing. Believe me thats no great loss.
Ive said it before, i will say it again...

You know dude, there's other games in the world that are worth playing that aren't shooters. Rez HD, Triggerheart Exelica, Dead Rising, Bomberman LIVE, Eternal Sonata, Senko no Ronde, Raiden Fighters Aces, Crackdown, EDF, and a bunch of other stuff is on the 360. It's the best console for the time being.Harlequin wrote:Na dude, I am not missing out on anything.Erinu wrote:Have fun missing out on good games just because you don't like the console it's released for.

The Wii has a bunch too, Zack and Wiki, NMH, Galaxy, MP3, Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, Endless Ocean, and so on.
The PS3 has the least amount of games out of all three, but the best lineup. But there's no word on CAVE games, and limiting yourself to one genre is retarded.
You don't know that they will end up on the PS3. That's just speculation. So really, if a CAVE game ends up getting released on the 360, you're going to eat your words, followed by turning around and buying one. There's no reason to discredit a console you don't own just because it doesn't have stuff you don't like.

Im over Next Gen gaming.
Im only interested in STG's.
You are right tho, if CAVE released a bunch of thier games on
the XBox360 or Wii then i might just well CAVE (pun intended)
and buy the system for those games. Guess what then if i want
i could check out all the games above if i care to as a bonus.
Until that happens then ill wait to see which system will get my
money.

@Harlequin
Cave will most likely ignore ALL of the 3 consoles. As far as I know the PS2 sales were not that great anyway. Also, the specs are barely a deciding factor when it comes to shmups. An established online distribution channel like XBLA and the convenience of XNA tools are such factors and that's why smaller developers will continue to choose mainly XBLA. Omega Five being a good example.

and VC shit
Anyway i dont believe that SPECS are a deciding factor. Look
at the Ketsui port, couldnt happen on the PS2 for various reasons.
Arika said its possible on the PS3 but too expensive. So that gives
me hope that the CAVE port direction would go to the most
powerful system. I could also be wishing too much.
Anyway i hope your right and CAVE doesnt port on any system, I
can save my money. If they go the Online way i wont buy any console.
I will stick to MAME and a Cab.

Re: My PS3 starving for some Shmup action, anything!?
Damn now with the recent news of Cave games going to be avaible on XBLA, the 360 basically has Shmup monopoly. While the arena shooters on the PS3 are fun, I don't really count them.
I don't care about playing every game released, nor do I have time.. Just a couple of good Cave shmups on the PS3 had been enough for me.. but considering how things are currently going, I may have to buy the XBLA machine..
I wish they would port XBLA to PS3
The main reason I don't want more consoles is because they make my already cluttered living room look like a junk yard where plastics go to collect dust :p. And that 360 makes my ears hurt

Shmupping next gen...I agree with Harlequin.
360 - has games I already have on classic systems. New, upcoming shmups few in number. System breaks down more often than a 1974 Chrysler.
Wii - Has games I already have on classic systems. New upcoming shmups are few in number. The system looks no different onscreen (graphically) than its last counterpart, Gamecube (which is an outrage). System is marketed to 5 year olds and skateboard geeks who enjoy swinging around a fancy controller.
PS3 - My first next gen choice....unfortunately priced out of reach of the common man's pocketbook if you count an 1080p HDTV and state of the art sound system (for the blue-ray) to fully enjoy the system, otherwise...whats the point? Internet connection is free and has a few shmup titles for download and one or two future titles.
