I thought, "this game's kinda cool!" So, I wanted to compare to the original AC ver. and I love it! It seems very solid and very fair. I very much enjoy the whole enemy bumping feature which enables you to run into crap without being destroyed. It disrupts your ability to fire, but at least you don't have the frustrating "have to memorize to survive" syndrome when some random ship flies up your tail pipe from the bottom of the screen and kills you.
Also the bombing system is pretty sweet. Rather than dropping bombs whenever you get freaked out, you just have a stock that hangs on your ship. If your suffer a hit on the side that is carrying a bomb, you auto-bomb. Direct hits to the front of your ship = death, but you get 3 seconds to fly your ship into position before you actually explode and damage surrounding enemies
I never once felt cheaped and all the bosses are enjoyable. Even the areas that were difficult when powered down, were still quite survivable with some creative dodging.
If you've only played the SNES ver. do yourself a favor and play the AC ver. before writing it off as lame. UPL seldom disappoints me
