Battle Garegga (reborn)

Post by Randorama »

The next incarnation of the Battle Garegga high score thread can be found here.

Please post your scores in the format:

Code: Select all

SCORE - NAME - STAGE - SHIP (SUBTYPE)
A quick note on the tables. Each table has the main ship name listed, with the names of the subtypes in the order B/C/ABC below it. You can either post in the format Wild Snail (B) or Iron Mackerel, whichever makes you more comfortable.

Be aware that I will only accept scores posted with the JAPANESE DEFAULTS - that's Extends set to every 1mil, Normal difficulty. The things that will disqualify a score are Red Ball and Stage Edit, as well as scores submitted for the other versions of the game (like the China revision).

If you want help, the old score thread has quite a lot of tips posted, and there's always the ST thread, too. ^_-

Get those scores in! And enjoy this great game.

Done, could you check again if the postboard is ok, though...? I am noticing problems when I upload it, something goes bonkers in my visual array.

And yes, that's the top score of old I had, not too bad I think.

I had a similar impression last time I played, honestly. Just to be sure: I am using the latest winMAME version (122 or so), I keep having the feeling that the game has random variations in speed. Can anyone give more feedback? My PC is powerful enough to emulate the heaviest stuff on MAME, so I suppose it is a game-specific problem...

mame hamfisted anything with a toaplan2 base adding 2-3 frames of additional input lag sometime after mame .103, so you might want to use that version

This was a great run for me, near optimal with my current strategies up until Junkey Monkey (where the run ended). It was also the first time I had 2,65 million after the birds. Now I've got to start working on milking Satanic Surfer and learning how to get the medals from the rails in the end of the fourth stage in a reliable manner.

Awesome score! What's your trick in getting 2 million from the birds? I only get like 1 million.

Yeah, that was extremely high for me. No idea how I got it, except that it seemed as if there were more birds this time than usual. Usually my score after this spot is somewhere between 2,1 and 2,4 million (which means a gain of between 1,5 and 1,8 million, as I get around 600 000 on the first stage). Only advice I can give is to bomb the house early when it gets on the screen and that you should try to aim for big clusters of birds. It's a really hard spot to get right, but it is possible to get some kind of consistency once you get the hang of it.

Yeah the flamingos have a lot of luck involved. 95% of the time (with wild snail and its variants) I'll get about 1-1.2M from it. Only 5% do I get 2M, and shmup law dictates that I die immediately after.

I just reread Icarus' guide and aparently the more you hit the castle with bombs the more birds get released. The problem is that Wild Snail's burner won't automatically aim for the castle, so if there's some new enemy flying onscreen the burners will just aim in his direction instead.

Any one have some tips for flamingos with Miyamoto? I know I am missing a chunck of points here. I don't know if it would be wiser to stay at the castle to trigger more birds or just get as close as possible to the "clumps."

With Miyamoto you won't get more than maybe 700,000-750,000 points. Try using all your bombs and then find a flamingo that you can milk with your options until it leaves the screen.
