I use a Sanwa modded DC stick (square restrictor plate) for everything.

I made a plexi-glass DC stick a while ago but i never use it tbh, i find the plexi glass gets too sweaty after 20mins play and restricts my movement

your sticks look like theyre taller than mine. do they just have longer shafts or are they mounted closer to the surface?

japtor: the way you have your is how it should be, the stick should be counter-sunk a llittle. This is why the DC stick is so perfect to mod, you get the proper height.

I have an old crusty looking astro city control panel laying around that was made for sanwa sticks. There's a bracket underneath that makes the joysticks sit at the right height. I could take a measurement if anyone wants to know exactly how far the sanwa should stick out above the panel.

For me though, nothing beats the Seimitsu LS-32 joystick when playing shooters. I recently saw some pics of the interior of a Japan arcade that looked like some kind of hardcore STG mecca and all the shooter cabs had red ball top Seimitsu joysticks but Sanwa buttons. Every game was rigged with autofire and they seemed to always use a red button for that in order to distinguish which button was the autofire.

I have to agree with you. I have the HORI Special Edition with the Seimitsu LS-32 stick and I definitely prefer it to my HORI RAP with Sanwa stick and buttons for shmups.

I won't mod my HORI SE with Sanwa buttons as the Seimitsu buttons are quite responsive. I would give a slight edge to the Sanwa buttons but not enough to replace them.

I have found that using spacers, like 1mm washers, is perfect way to bring down the height when modding console stick. It's practical method.

That said, the DC stick with LS-32 is my preference for stick height (very low!, but not too low...like old days cocktail cabinet 2-way sticks). Shorter than standard JPN cabinet stick mounting.

In the case of Astro City and New Astro City cabinet, they are using LS-32 with OBSF-30 from the factory. The stick mounting plate (seperate from control panel mounting plate) is curved to give 'normal' stick height. Only Astro City 2 (which is only slight upgrade and even looks almost same) changed to Sanwa JLF stick. I would guess that the love for Seimitsu stick/Sanwa button combo amongst STG player in Japan arcade is originating from Astro City cabinet. Personally, from a technical feeling standpoint -not just nostalgia comfort- I think it's best.

My sticks is topmounted. I figure that average europeans have bigger hands than japanese. If you would play with it you would understand ^_^, nice and neat. And even if I wanted to lover the stick it can`t be done becuase there is no space (it is 43mm tall).
Have any of you tried shoot em ups with a sanwa flashstick?
