Are there many decent shmups on the XBOX?
Is it a worthwhile purchase? I already have DC,GC,PS2,PC.

Technically the Xbox is the greatest shmup machine ever if you get it modded.

Otherwise, you can have Shikigami no Shiro, Shikigami no Shiro 2, and Xyanide...

Yeah, what the hell? And no GameBoy are PC Engine. Plus all those computers, Amiga and MSX and what not.

I doubt any will vote N64 (not that it's a bad system, imo), while a lot would probably say Genesis or PCE.

If the xbox is chipped then i'd chose the xbox by miles. otherwise Dreamcast easily. Quality over quantity

I'd say that the XBOX will be worth buying AFTER there's a price drop. There are plenty of good non-shmup exclusives for the system, and, heaven forbid, Xyanide might finally get released.

The Xbox is not a good purchase if you want to play shmups, in fact it's pointless.

If you want to play 'modern' games, or if you want nice easy online gaming, it's unmatched - nothing touches it.

I'd say for Shmups, although Dreamcast, PCE, Genesis have some quality ones it's really down to the PS2 and Saturn (Thunderforce gold pack helps

). Both have -high- quality exclusives, it's really a matter of taste. I say you need both consoles, and that's that really. Console wars are dumb.

If you're into online gaming, then get an XBOX. If you're not; I would advise you to get a PSTwo. The slim-lines are incredibly durable, and, terms of game libraries, neither the Cube nor the XBOX can match the PS2. Even on an American PSTwo, you can run the gamut from everything from R-Type in 1987, all the way to Gradius V; in terms of shmups.

I agree Neon, console wars ARE dumb-people should just play whatever the hell console(s) they like and stop the dumb comparison crap. If someone only wants to go as far as a 2600 in their lifetime, that's their business.

Regardless, the console wars will continue-we're about ready to get hit with the next wave!

I know a couple guys that have a modded xbox. They said once you install a bigger harddrive, MAME including the NeoGeo emulator, works flawlessly on Xbox.

Well If this is true, then since the NES, Master System, Genesis and SNES emulators already run flawlessly, I hardly see much competition for xbox when it comes to shmups. The only shmups the xbox would seriously be lacking, would be the modern/recent shmups. But the volume of older shmups compared to the newer ones is terribly higher, you'd be more than satisfied.

I've got to say PSX-PS2 due to backwards compatibility and the more recent stuff if you like modern shooters

Then It all comes down to your shmup/genre tastes.

Theres a few import only shmups on the xbox, Shikigami no Shiro, Shikigami no Shiro 2 and psyvariar 2, which are all available on other consoles. oh, and geometery wars hidden in project gotham 2.

But with the ability to mod the xbox and run many emulators, including mame, the xbox becomes the ultimate shmup console ane an essential purchase.
