I think it's just right for an arcade...but it's the shop that seems to make it slow (even then, they could just lower the buying time).Gwyrgyn Blood wrote:It seems kind of long, slow and easy for an arcade shooter to be honest. It's a great game and all, but I wouldn't want to play it at an arcade.

For the 3 of you who might care, there's footage from Trouble Witches AC up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCX4f9HV ... re=related
Looks much like the PC version but with 2 new characters (you can get a better look on Studio Siesta's site), maybe somewhat improved/changed graphics, and more enemies (very good news).
Also they changed the interface around AGAIN, and it looks like the game may actually be 2 players now.

Studio Siesta may make a patch that turns the PC version into the arcade version thenrtw wrote:It's a PC game, the Taito-X is XP based... My guess is Taito-Xpixelcorps wrote:i wonder what hardware they'll use....

Trouble Witches questions
I picked up Trouble Witches Episode 1 for PC. My box when opened had no card on the interior on the other side from the disc. Is mine missing or is that normal for this release?
A layer of the background vanished on the 2nd section of the game, is that normal too? Now I'm going to check for download patches.

Patch 1.10 is out

It seems as if a reinstall from 1.0 is necessary ?

This was the first time I patched it. I think the differences begin with it saying "ver 2" under the title... Maybe some of the changes I see came from playing the game for a bit and unlocking? Probably not. The Arcade mode is the first choice, before it was the 2nd... All 4 characters are there. All the modes work; I think arcade mode didn't work last time I tried. Circle around the cat seemed bigger at the beginning? The background layer didn't vanish.

Alright I gave it a try and here's the changes I've found so far:
- Everything unlocked from the get go!
- Stages are shorter! Stage 1 and 5 in particular are noticeable. This is very good for Stage 1, but they actually toned down the 'sandwich' section of Stage 5 which I think is a little sad since it was such a great part.
- SHITTONS more enemies! Very noticable right at the start of the game, there is a ton more stuff attacking you at all times throughout the game. Very awesome!
- Shit tons more bullets! Not only do enemies fire more, but now there is a much larger variety in bullet graphics. Very welcomed change. Also notably, they changed the color of the bullets the 'mini-boats' fire in the Ice and Fire stages to Green. Boss 3 also in particular fires a shitload more bullets all the time.
- New Spell Card! Only one I've seen so far is the Familiar's new sparkle attack spell card, which is basically a seeking attack for your familiar. Not bad, wipes up large numbers of popcorn pretty easy and can get you a LOT of star coins in some places.
- Fireball spell card seems to shoot automatically now. Also seems to be a lot stronger, and the fireballs last a long time!
- Spellcards appear in different locations now, so it seems. Seems to be less of the Multi-Star shot, which is sad.
- Spellcards seem to last a lot less time. But now there's a lot more places to score lots of coins, so maybe it evens out?
- You can continue in place now, so you don't have to restart the stage.
- Pril seems to be even stronger than before! She's even more so the easiest character to use now. Don't know why you would use anyone else if you were playing for score.
- Thanks to the increased bullet speed, Aqua sucks EVEN MORE THAN BEFORE. Although to be fair, her Barrier lasts a REALLY long time, so even though she can't move worth a shit, she can keep herself safe pretty long.
Edit: Actually scratch that, Aqua is official UNUSABLY awful now. In any difficulty higher than Normal, she can't even dodge out of the way of normal patterns. Heaven help you if you have a Barrier up and need to dodge something!
- Yuuki's damage is WAY better now! On the downside, her Barrier drains fast as hell. Much more fun to play but still hard to use.
- Stage 6: Stages has changed quite a lot. Much shorter now, only one set of puffy head things shows up. Towards the end, another shop shows up (thank god) and then a gigantic wave of enemies shows up. It's not possible at all for Aqua to dodge with a Barrier up! Kind of a 'fuck you' moment, but I guess not hard to deal with once you know it's coming.
Overall though patch is really good and a pretty major revision on the game. Certainly more changes I haven't found yet as well.
Edit: Oh awesome. On the stage 3 boss, it's not only possible, but likely, if you miss destroying a block before the boss spawns, the block just hangs around while you can't move, and then kills you the instant the battle starts. Brilliant! Doesn't anybody test this shit? This version is seriously 2 steps forward and 2 steps back.

Gwyrgyn, thanks for the heads up on the new version, seems like this is the one released for the arcade. Did you patch on top of 1.05 or 1.00 ?

I tried patching over both 1.0 and 1.05 and they both seem to work fine. Basically it doesn't use the old datafile 1.05 used but it also doesn't delete it, so it's cleaner if you just reinstall or delete it yourself.
And yeah, those TW2 designs were out a while ago and they are still pretty depressing. Hopefully some personality will come out in the game itself, or at least the bosses will be interesting. :I

The characters in the first game were pretty cool, but they did go for the kitchen sink approach when it came to tagging accessories onto them.
It says the bland schoolgirl outfit and first two sketches are for a magic school. The final sketch, which I quite like, is referred to as the witch outfit and more in-line with the first game (accessorise!). So maybe the first one is more of a cut scene affair, and they’ll glam the bottom one up for the missions.

It was a good game before but it was too long and there were large sections that were very boring (like most of Stage 1), which really hurt the playability of the game. Now it's 10x tighter which really keeps the game moving better. Although to be honest I think Stage 5 is now a tad too short and Boss 5 takes a tad too long to kill.
