PS: Don't worry, it still slows a shitload when bosses explode, as it should be
ports that are better than the arcade originals

Not to sound like too much of a tech newb, but what exactly IS a RGB cable? What inputs on my tv would I need to have to be able to use this? I would like to have my Saturn hooked up to something better than s-video, but didn't know there was an option.Ceph wrote:
And yeah, Saturn does feature RGB. You just need an RGB cable. It may have been a bit premature to sell your Saturn games. Did you sell everything, including your Saturn?

It makes parts of the game unnecessarily harder in the GC version, particularly those big white ships in Stage 5 - the lack of slowdown when they explode throws off your timing when you're going for a 118 chain. I've gotten a 118 chain on the GC and DC versions, but I get it way more often on the DC rev. If you aren't trying for a 114 or 118 chain, then this does not matter as much.Arvandor wrote:(and unlike in a Cave game, taking the slowdown out of Ikaruga doesn't harm the gameplay).
So if you're going for a top score, the DC version is the way to go as it's closer to the Naomi original.

Mars Matrix (DC) takes the cake on this one. It's pretty nuts how there's so many extras you can unlock from gathering up gold. And Batsugun, obviously, deserves a high spot on the list.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming G Darius on the Taito Legends 2 (PS2) is superior to it's arcade original. It's alot better (gameplay-wise) than the PS port. That's for sure.

the saturn av port has red/green/blue output. you can't get better than that. Not to sound like too much of a tech newb, but what exactly IS a RGB cable? U.S. tv's don't have RGB inputs. If you have component inputs you could get a RGB to component converter or scart rgb to component.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Not to be too much trouble, but could you(or someone) send me a link to something like that? I do have component input.Strider77 wrote:the saturn av port has red/green/blue output. you can't get better than that. Not to sound like too much of a tech newb, but what exactly IS a RGB cable? It is an awful port. A handful of the extras are cool... many suck though (extra firepower and shit). As stated many times it doesn't support 240p and is a graphical mess, but it also has the screen ratio skewed. I believe you can tweak it in the settings.. but why would they cock it up out of the box is beyond me.J-Manic wrote:Mars Matrix (DC) takes the cake on this one.
No 240p, so technically MAME is a truer version. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming G Darius on the Taito Legends 2 (PS2) is superior to it's arcade original
You need component in on a non-HDTV for it to "look right". If it's HD, the signal will be molested like an alter boy.Not to be too much trouble, but could you(or someone) send me a link to something like that? I do have component input.

no component will still look better than s-video, anything lower than component on HD looks like shit. still... component will make it look better, but still it's getting scaled like crazy, HDTV+XRGB2=win

Yes, Senko on 360 does have better graphics, and the extra costumes don't hurt!Super Laydock wrote:I imagine Senko no Ronde having having somewhat upgraded graphics on the x360...Since I don't own it or have played either version I leave it to others to confirm or deny this assumption.

I feel your pain too.professor ganson wrote:I'm sad to see Souky and RSG because I thought I was upgrading when I bought the ST-V carts and sold the ports. But if we're mainly talking about extras, I almost never take advantage of such things. As long as the main game is on a par I prefer being able to play the original.
I haven't yet spent the time to figure out the new control scheme for the arcade version of RSG. I always used the 7-button option on the port.
To add to the previous list of extras in RS
20 more bonus dogs to find
5 more bosses to fight

I'm pretty sure that no port has/will ever have less input delay than the original arcade game.
and Arcade monitor >>>>> TV/PC screen
so the short answer is none..
That being said, games that add to the original arcade game (like ikaruga/gunbird 2/mars matrix all for Dreamcast) can be considered of better value, but the game's original arcade version remains superior. In those cases the games can be considered complementary as opposed to superlative.

I don't believe it. Impossible! Where's the proof? How did you find this out? Links please. A pretty bold statement, I cannot imagine it to be true. Here's why. You can also play consoles in a cab.
It's been noted here time and time again that the ESPGaluda port is indiscernible from it's arcade counter part, except for the IGS hardware bug which is not present in the port, making it "better". Of course better is a subjective word.but the game's original arcade version remains superior.

Well even if you play your console, say ps2 on a cab you wont get native resolutions so the games will still look worse.
For the input delay i guess Garegga is the exception that proves the rule.
For Galegga(sic) the saturn port has an arranged soundtrack and whether it is better or worse is subjective...and again the game isnt on native resolution (probably in 352 x 240 saturn resolution). For Galuda I have no idea (never played) but you seem to say it is "as good" wich is possible (except the 640x480 ps2 resolution).

Takumi's PSX port of Taito G-Card Night Raid is cool...
Takumi's PSX port of it's earlier release of the Taito G-Card shmup title of Night Raid features some cool extra content not found on the original arcade version including:
*New CGI opening intro
*New modes of gameplay
*The ability to save your high scores for posterity on a paltry 1MB PSX memory card (the original G-Card ver. of Night Raid doesn't even save high scores upon powering down the full-sized arcade cabinet for the night despite having such built-in save capabilities to do so via the Taito G-Net mobo...)
Only gripe was lack of two-player simultaneous capability (in regards to keeping the 60fps framerate at a respectable rate) and the loss of extra number counter displayed when chaining...certain tradeoffs have been implemented in order to have a high-quality PSX port that is Night Raid.
Even Night Raid's in-graphics opening intro and ending/staff credits roll looks the same on the PSX port compared to the original G-Card version of the same name running on the Taito G-Net mobo setup.
In theory, it's been said that a Taito G-Card can hold upto 320MB of data storage capacity -- surely, a standard PSX CD-Rom disc can hold more data than that, of course leaving plently of room for extra bonus content galore! ^_~
