Thanks to the last maintainer, Rastan78, for his duty serving the previous high-score topic, now here's the update.

As usual:
Full default dips, 1 coin play only.
All manually entered codes are OK. This does not include Bullet Speed code.
Stage Edit is allowed.
Enter scores as such:

Code: Select all

May I suggest that Stage Edit should be allowed (dip setting)?

yeah, there are a lot of stage edit scores on there

You might also want people to list the path as well.

I'm considering the possibility at this point, however I don't really want to change the rules from the former thread or mess to much with the current listing. Since from what I can tell only one person explicitly posted a Stage Edit score (Icarus) and only one other person spoke about wanting to submit (Acid King).

If you want to open up a 'seperate' poll thread for the idea and contact all the members who've submitted scores in the past to confirm whether they used Stage Edit or not(in the 'seperate' poll), then go nuts. Otherwise, I'm thinking it over for the moment.

You don't have to mess with the listing, just remove the rule.

I definitely used Stage Edit. I'm quite certain Rastan78 did as well. And I'm pretty sure that after the guide was published, quite a number of score submissions were using Stage Edit, as I've explicitly recommended that it should be used in optimal scoring strategy (unlike Batrider, where stage order is hugely dependent on how your ships are set up, and the ships you're using, a particular fixed stage order works best for maximising your score in this game).

Up to you, though. If I return to this game in the near-future, I'll still be using Stage Edit in all of my runs, FYI.

As for path listing, if you want mine (for Normal), it was:
Forest > Railroad > Naval > Desert > Seaside > Cloud > (Normal ALL)

my second score on the board could have easy broke 8-9 million but i started getting too much of an adrenaline buzz because my score was so high and pretty much choked from the start of the 5th stage onwards ..

also does rank carry on to the next game like garegga/batrider ?.. bit of a pain in the arse having to wait for attract sequences to cycle once youve sent the rank mental

i started the 6th level with 4 extends and totally choked on the adrenaline again.. only made it to the second wave of bosses  getting scores that i know could easy beat my personal best always brings it on ... the rank was going mental tho cos i had been using that same ship since level 2(when i was down to 1 life) i should've suicided on the level 5 boss once or twice ..

Scores updated. Since nobody else complained about Stage Edit I'm leaving it as is until further notice. I'm not forbidding it but your score will show an (SE) afterwards, that's all. Maybe if/when I want to switch from

Code: Select all

to [quote] for the listings I'll more formally accept Stage Edit.

Also, I'm thinking about whether to make the cut off at 35 or 40, with a sllight favouring to 35. Input is appreciated.

All manually entered codes are OK.

So does that mean y'all are using the Bullet Speed Mode to reduce bullet speed down to 7 (from 20)? Just wondering so i can compete on a level playing field.

I'd suggest 40. Keeping the door open just a bit wider may seem a bit more inviting. This game is so much fun!

Ahh k cool. I was quite suspicious but since it's a manually entered code i wasn't sure.

The only other ones i can see being an advantage (altho minor compared to bullet speed) are the following ingame secrets:

SCORE MODE (Score numbers start listing themselves at the left side of the screen.)
SPECIAL SOUND MODE (A special sound appears when the counter runs out.)
BULLET COLOR MODE (Changes the colors of enemy bullets.)

I don't use them but it'd be good to know if they are allowed or not.

Limbrooke, you might want to amend the "All manually entered codes are OK" with Bullet Speed Mode isn't (and perhaps some of the others listed above if someone says they aren't either).

[Outdated, see below] 31. unsane - 3 502 280 - Blade Owl [C] - Stage 5 (no stage edit)

I've reached stage 6 a couple times so it's looking like this game might be the magic one for my first ever shmup 1cc...

I wish i knew wtf is going on with the rank though. At times stage 1 and 2 go apeshit, and at others i can no miss stages 1 to 4 and the rank is cake.

Image

Edit 29/12/07: Funny how that works: i haven't played a shmup in 3 days, pick this up, and beat both my survival and score records on the first go. Also beat my Raiden record shortly thereafter.

30. unsane - 3 733 360 - Blade Owl [C] - Stage 6 (no stage edit)

Love this game, but it's pretty intimidating. About 40 hrs of playtime now. Still no 1cc, but i did manage to finally clear Training. :P Didn't realize there's another extend at 4 million, that should help me clear it.

Yeah see i knew that, but for some stupid reason i subconsciously thought i'd only get one extend ever in this game. Probly due to almost every shmup i play i only get one extend, at least for as far i can reach. Also due to the fact that i'd been stuck at 3.7 million for such a long ass time. :P So it was a pleasant surprise, giving me renewed hope of 1ccing it one day. :) I don't do the suiciding thing because following strategy guides step by step takes out all the fun in a game for me.

Well, I don't think it's necessary to read the guides. I haven't bothered following the strategy guide at all, but suiciding is essential to score well. It's very fun to discover on your own.

Good point, i started paying more attention and found an obvious spot to bomb that nets 6 100k medals! The fun begins! 44 hours played now. Went back to no autofire and obliterated my Blade Owl top 5. Died at Gigamanta, Normal Course:

[Outdated, see later post] 18. unsane - 5 381 890 - Flame Viper [C] - Stage 6

A couple hours later i no missed to stage 6 miniboss 3, but i somehow didn't fucking get the 1cc. Died on Giga's last form. I didn't reach the 4 million extend though... if only! Tomorrow this game is going down!

word! you should try and reach the 6 mill extend too

are you chaining much through certain parts?? suiciding is useful for this because you can refresh your bombs and keep up the chains for longer.
