Is that the song where everyone who is too tall must go--because more short people can be fit in the same building size?

Aye, such great lyrics.
I've been toying with the idea of making some artwork related to it myself.

Get 'Em Out By Friday
by Banks/Collins/Gabriel/Hackett/Rutherford (Genesis)

(John Pebble of Styx Enterprises)
"Get 'em out by Friday!
You don't get paid till the last one's well on his way.
Get 'em out by Friday!
It's important that we keep to schedule, there must be no delay."

(Mark Hall of Styx Enterprises, otherwise known as "The Winkler")
"I represent a firm of gentlemen who recently purchased this
house and all the others in the road,
In the interest of humanity we've found a better place for you
to go, go-woh, go-woh"

(Mrs. Barrow,a tenant)
"Oh no, this I can't believe,
Oh Mary, they're asking us to leave."

(Mr. Pebble)
"Get 'em out by Friday!
I've told you before, 's good many gone if we let them stay.
And if it isn't easy,
You can squeeze a little grease and our troubles will soon run away."

(Mrs. Barrow)
"After all this time, they ask us to leave,
And I told them we could pay double the rent.
I don't know why it seemed so funny,
Seeing as how they'd take more money.
The winkler called again, he came here this morning,
With four hundred pounds and a photograph of the place he has found.
A block of flats with central heating.
I think we're going to find it hard."

(Mr. Pebble)
"Now we've got them!
I've always said that cash cash cash can do anything well.
Work can be rewarding
When a flash of intuition is a gift that helps you
excel-sell-sell-sell."

(Mr. Hall)
"Here we are in Harlow New Town, did you recognise your block
across the square, over there,
Sadly since last time we spoke, we've found we've had to raise
the rent again,
just a bit."

(Mrs. Barrow)
"Oh no, this I can't believe
Oh Mary, and we agreed to leave."

(a passage of time)

(18/9/2012 T.V. Flash on all Dial-A-Program Services)
This is an announcement from Genetic Control:
"It is my sad duty to inform you of a four foot restriction on
humanoid height."

(Extract from coversation of Joe Ordinary in Local Puborama)
"I hear the directors of Genetic Control have been buying all the
properties that have recently been sold, taking risks oh so bold.
It's said now that people will be shorter in height,
they can fit twice as many in the same building site.
(they say it's alright),
Beginning with the tenants of the town of Harlow,
in the interest of humanity, they've been told they must go,,br> told they must go-go-go-go."

(Sir John De Pebble of United Blacksprings International)
"I think I've fixed a new deal
A dozen properties - we'll buy at five and sell at thirty four,
Some are still inhabited,
It's time to send the winkler to see them,
he'll have to work some more."

(Memo from Satin Peter of Rock Development Ltd.)
With land in your hand, you'll be happy on earth
Then invest in the Church for your heaven.

Well, to be more specific, as the above copy-paste says, people are genetically engineered to be short so they can cram more of them into fewer buildings.

Ah, nobody does kooky pretentiousness like Genesis - I love 'em anyway. I've done a handful of other drawings and whatnot based on their songs (say whatever you want about 'em, they certainly have plenty of off-the-wall imagery to toy with if you've a mind to), maybe I'll post one or two more...

The Peter Gabriel era was legendary and Phil Collins did what he did best, kept quiet and bashed the drums.
Foxtrot is one of my all time favorite albums, top 5 material.
Please show us your other Genesis artwork BulletMagnet :D

Yup, nothing but good things to say up through (and including) Lamb lies down on broadway. Just didn't remember which song had the lyrics about moving people out because big people couldn't bring enough revenue.

Trick of the tail ain't bad either.

Yup, that there's from Trespass, very nice. Too bad Nuke beat me to it. Why not do a set of illustrations for Lamp Lies Down though?

Edit: To be honest, it warms my heart to see pictures inspired by Trespass. This one's a really formative album for me, and often ignored by the Genesis fans (wrongly of course.)

Thanks for the comments, all. :) It is a bit difficult to see everything since the piece was too big to scan, but hopefully the zoomed-in shot and your imaginations can help with that, heh heh. It's not as good as it should be (frankly, I'm not nearly as good an artist as I ought to be, considering how long I've been drawing), but I'm still glad you like it.

And yeah, The Lamb definitely has some great imagery to translate to paper/canvas/whatever...I actually have done a handful of pieces based on that, but most of them are several years old and not even of a quality matching the "White Mountains" piece. Well, maybe my clay Slipperman sculpture, that one was actually pretty popular with the rest of my class back in the day (he earned the pet nickname "Mr. Lumpy"). But yeah, I probably ought to do some "updated" versions of my previous Genesis-inspired work...actually, I vaguely recall seeing an artist's work online which was based on some Genesis songs, quite a few years back, I'll hafta try to find it...

BulletMagnet, you MUST post all your Genesis-inspired stuff. Please! Especially if you have something from Selling England by the Pound, which IMO is one of the greatest albums ever recorded.

I don't think I've done anything from "Selling England" (yet), though IIRC the artist I mentioned in my last post used a song or two from that album (don't quote me on that, though). Funnily enough, however, I did recite the lyrics of "I Know What I Like" as a monologue in a drama workshop class some time ago, heh heh.

In any event, here's an unfinished piece, and (I think) the last of my recent Genesis work. Some of the lyrics (and "storyline" stuff printed in the insert) is right in the piece, so this is probably the easiest one to recognize (if you're not already just looking at the file names, anyways).

This month I have to review a book on free will for the journal Science, but the word limit won't leave much room for creativity. I'll be turning to some other writing projects next month, though, and these should allow me to get back to thinking/writing and away from teaching/chairing.

Explaination of -tans.

I was looking around for an Xbox 360-tan wallpaper to use on my 360 dashboard. Considering the system's lack of popularity in Japan I wasn't surprised that I could only dig up a few images, and I didn't like any of them. What did surprise me was how little art seems to be around for Dreamcast-tan designs. Therefore:

Image

I left this a little sketchier than I normally would with a painting, since I liked the look of it when it got to this point. I was going to give the outfit a phone cord tail originally, but it looked awkward.

I saw some of those at Prometheus Spawning Grounds but I didn't know it was part of something. Although, his Windows-tan didn't follow the rules so much.

Right now I'm designing a homemade ellipsograph and beam compass. I have a feeling that the parts are going to be expensive. I have the beam compass done but the ellipsograph is more complex to design.

Also I have to finish my soroban abacus with some sanding and a coat of polyurethane.

For art class I have to finish my 1 point perspective assignment. I really hate 1 point perspective because it is horribly wrong yet artists insist on using it. I have "cracked" it mathematically however. Simply take the 3d point (x,y,z) and plot it in two dimensions as ( (x/z) , (y/z) ).

Uh yeah so that is all of the creativity going on right now with me.
