Ah.
Seems to me that doesnt actually WORK in Galaxies, which is half the reason why I like this one so much.
The whole "you can win by circling" thing sorta put me off of Evolved. Seemed to me the enemies simply werent balanced enough, and such as that.
That simply dont work in Galaxies in most levels. Maybe in the really early ones, but not anything beyond that. And even in those, still might not happen.
I actually have to DODGE STUFF in this one, is why Im so fond of it.

whats grid wars?szycag wrote:Shoesuck doesn't even have a 360 or Wii to play this on. He's probably basing all his experience on Grid Wars.
Why couldn't they make the Gamecube controller work for this game? And if I buy a classic controller, I can play ALL the levels and not just retro evolved right?

The "360 version" Erinu is referring to is Geometry Wars Retro Evolved, which is included with the Wii and DS versions. The Wii and DS versions have a ton of new content that isn't in that game.professor ganson wrote:I didn't know that there is a 360 version. Great price! Please post comments when you've had a chance to play. *Still* waiting for Christmas myself.Sonic R wrote:I just got back from Meijers and they have this game on sale for $29.99 plus tax.
I snag the last copy and will look to play soon!
Thanks for the clarification, BrianC. That was confusing.

I don't care for this game much. I have the wii version and feel that it is uninspired and the levels are too similar. I don't like the scoring system at all if you loose one life you might just as well restart the level since it will take forever to get back to the multiplier you originally had. They could have done something to make each level really unique many play exactly the same as others just with slightly different enemies. I don't really feel that the movement is tight it just feels floaty somehow. Also there have been times when I die due to unseen enemies hidden in a mist of particles. There are many WTF killed me moments. I don't like how enemies spawn aimlessly without much warning and can come damn close to spawning on top of the player or at least too close to get away from quickly. The game lacks a real style it is very plain and not just because it is a vector game. Honestly after about 5 hours of game play I feel that it could have been made in about a month on my PC. It doesn't really impress me as anything special. It just feels plain and repetitive. It has its moments but again so much more could have been done with level design and making each level really feel unique. I like abstract games but this game is very plain sure it uses light blending but still it lacks a personal touch for style. All the planets for example are just scaled and recolored. The grids are all the same shape I've played other PC clone games that have different grid presentations all that look unique. Each level feels like it was designed in about 10 minutes and then a spawning algorithm applied. Really they could have included a level creator for more fun since the levels are so basic. It is OKish but nothing really groundbreaking. Honestly any hobbyist programmer could have produced this in about a month. It feels like it falls in between freeware and shareware. I will play it but it isn't quite as polished in presentation or game play as it could have been. I don't feel that I've been cheated but I do feel that 40 USD is too steep for such a bare bones game.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I never had any issues with the scoring myself. It never takes me long to get back that multiplier at all.... it's just a matter of doing it without dying again.
Also, never any issues with "what hit me"..... no, I always know EXACTLY what I just rammed into, lol.
Hmm, Im wondering if the Wii version is somehow different from the DS one?
There isnt anything in that paragraph that I myself would say about the DS one....

Sonic R impressions:
Well I have some time to play this today (Children are at my mothers home
)
I take a break from playing to post this--of noting I never play Geometry Wars before on anything. I was Geometry Wars virgin until now and only got the Wii version because I had an itch for a new game and the price is right.
It is a decent game so far. I am going for gold so I spend ALOT of time on replay the levels
Death early on is instant restart
. So far if I die late in the run, I can recover quick with all the enemies coming out. I have not had any WTF deaths as I know what kill me when it happen.
For me it has a dojin feel -- I don't play too many of this "Robotron" style but it is a decent game. I feel good to only spend $29.99 I guess. I will still have to check out the original which is included in this game. I am also using the classic controller and I am having some cramp issues. I'll give the Wii controller a try sometime when I am feeling a bit of the saucy but am ok with the classic controller for now and will play through pain.
Over all it is a decent game. If some one start a high score thread I'll be glad to participate! For compare, I like Blast Factor a bit better with its chaining mechanic. Geometry Wars Galaxies is a decent game but I don't think it is something super sensational. Curious to see how this game link with the DS! Maybe on of my mates will get the DS one?

I just got this game, so I'll throw in my impressions.
It is a lot of fun. I liked the 360 one well enough, but this is far more entertaining, and I can't explain why. Maybe it's the differing goals with the geoms(and the different multiplying scheme therein), or the drones, or the new maps and enemies, or whatever. But it definitely kicks ass.
I also found myself adapting to the wiimote scheme rather well, which is good, because I don't have a classic controller. My first few games were awkward, but now I can aim wherever I want without any issues. So that's a plus.
I like how the drones are upgradeable, and how you unlock levels based on geom collection-which also means you're getting some nice scores out of the mix. It isn't often that a full game release has been entirely score based these days, and I welcome it.

I think you do a good job of explaining why this is quite a bit more enjoyable than the last installment. And the term "maps" is helpful: a casual reading of this thread had led me to expect levels, so it was quite puzzling to me that I was never advancing to a next level even when I got to gold scores.ubersaurus wrote: I can't explain why. Somebody SHOULD start a score page for this game.
Of course, that's a bit hard, since much like the actual leaderboards, they sorta gotta be divided by each level.
Such a great game though..... been playing this too much...... I got some 200,000,000 in Minduo, I think it was. Minelayers, not as annoying as I first thought.

dont think ketsui is possible to pre order yet. who knows if it will even ever see the light of day. im still skeptical. id gladly be proven wrong though.
well... i bought GW for DS after reading some positive impression here and elsewhere and i pretty much hated it right away.
i rarely buy games that im not sure ill enjoy, but this was one of those rare circumstances where i picked it up sort of on impulse and got burnt.
oops.

Got it today. And it is amazing. The Wiimote/nunchuck will take some getting used to but it's got a lot of potential in this game. As of now, I can do better with the classic controller. In fact, I'm doing better with the classic than I could with the 360's controller. So this game was an excellent addition to my setup.
