Also, thanks to Icarus, you can change extends in MAME:

""The default Extend setting is at 1,000,000pts per Extend.
Sega Saturn players don't need to mess with the options screen as the game defaults to this Extend seting automatically. However, MAME players will need to get the romset named "battlega" along with the parent set, change the emulation's region to "Japan" and set extends to "None" to get the 1mil per Extend setting."

All the other regions have weird settings, like 2mil per Extend, or no Extends at all"

Also many thanks to BulletMagnet, for making a much clearer scor table with specific entries per plane?character!

Have fun :D!

BREAKING NEWS: on 20-07-2005, Plasmo enters the Olympus of shmuppers! Congrats on your 1-cc!

How does one make it "full defaults"? I have the ROM, but it seems as if it's not the same (bullets are easy to see, no extends on default).

raiden - 2,996,020 - Stage 4 - Golden Bat

my old score used to be somewhere around 5mio., but I haven´t written it down, so I´ll start from scratch. Damn, I had 3 lives left at the end of stage 4 and was so sure I would reach 5, but then my nerves gave in.

is there no alternative crafts allowed i.e. can we only use 'a' to select a ship or are faster craft etc allowed?

the Golden Bat, which was the ship Randorama specified in his first posting, is an alternative version craft, so...

All ship types are allowed, if you want the B+C (smaller hit area and faster) type just let the selection screen time out. As long as it's full default (extend every 1M, still need to check the trick for MAME :?, normal difficulty, normal bullets ), everything else is ok (well, turn on the Mahou characters, inserting the trick every time is a pain).

That depends on which region your PCB is set at.

From my ST:

"The default Extend setting is at 1,000,000pts per Extend.
Sega Saturn players don't need to mess with the options screen as the game defaults to this Extend seting automatically. However, MAME players will need to get the romset named "battlega" along with the parent set, change the emulation's region to "Japan" and set extends to "None" to get the 1mil per Extend setting."

All the other regions have weird settings, like 2mil per Extend, or no Extends at all :P

Pardon the dumb question, but how does one do this? I have the romset specified, but I'm not sure how to set up the 1 mil. extends, as of now the thing is set to not give me any extra lives.

Make sure you have both battleg (Garegga parent set) and battlega (Asian territories set). Load battlega in MAME, and when the game appears, press the TAB button, and negotiate to the Dipswitches menu. From here, change the Region to JAPAN, and the Bonus Lives option to NONE, then reset the emulation via the main TAB menu.

When the game reloads itself, check the copyright screen. If it says "This game is only for use in NIPPON..." then the Region setting changes have worked. Then wait until the title screen appears, and see if it says "1,000,000 Per Extend" at the bottom. If it does, then you're all set!

Hmm, okay, thanks, I'll give it a try. Hopefully the tab button thing will also work with MAME32, which is what I usually use...if not I'll just download regular ol' MAME and try it there.

The numbers on the far right on the Ranking screen indicate the date and month the score was achieved. There are also an icon with two different states next to the date - one is an ARC if I remember correctly, and one is a chicken. If you have an ARC, then it means you got the score without the use of the restart option. The chicken is for those who have restarted credits and stages ;)

Well done on a good score, BTW. What ship were you using?

the macarel is superiour for me.. speedy and weak shots = lots of shooting points and easier medal catching...

im absoluteley crap with any other plane, but maybe ill change tactics someday.
like in batrider, different characters have very different tactics, but a good score is possible regardless..

Yeah, it's just that i can't avoid choosing the double-edged option of a smaller hit box ( double-edged because it makes dodging bullets easier and getting medals harder).
