Are there any US 2D Shoot Em Ups?

OK, so the majority and most well known shooters are from the Empire of the Rising Sun (Japan). Ranging on every single platform. (Console, Arcade, Computers).

Then there is also a horde of EURO shooters primarily on home computers like the AMIGA, ATARI ST, PC and various consoles like the PS-1. (Team17's X2 (Project-X) amongst a few)
there are also the latest EURO shooters:
Soldner-X & Last Hope.

There are also quite a few from Korea & Thailand
(Baryon, PC-DOS Disks & CD-ROM)

But what about 2D Shoot Em Ups created in the US?
Apart from that obscure shooter on the Atari Jaguar, Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy, I can't really think of any other decent US shooters?!

I think Battle Squadron for Genesis was created in USA.

No idea who did the port, but since it's originally a European Amiga-game I'd say it doesn't count.

However, there are lots of American shooters from the age of Atari.

There are several Atari-related shooters, both games Atari developed themselves (Centipede) and ones that appeared on their consoles (River Raid).

Raptor: Call of the Shadows by 3d Realms. You can still buy it from their site for fifteen bucks, lol.

Also there's Stargunner by them. personally I love both because nearing the higher difficulty levels the game likes to make it less and less possible to survive hits.

I'm a huge Jaguar and Lynx fanboy, but I wouldn't call Trevor McFur OR Gates of Zendocon "decent." Trevor McFur is absolutely horrid, it's truly one of those games that gives the Jag a bad name when there are actually some really great titles on the system.

Gates of Zendocon is interesting, and it's pretty cool to have all these secrets and splitting paths and things in a shmup. Just the fact that you can destroy stuff by backing into it with your thrusters is cool. But the gameplay is pretty simple - you pilot this incredibly slow ship through hordes of incredibly slow enemies. And you shoot them. That's it.

The Fourth Generation by Webfoot Technologies

I remember admiring at the cool graphics this game boasted, after trying the demo back in 1996.
I'm fortunately I never got to play the final release back then.

Stargunner mentioned earlier was released as freeware:

It was supposed to have also been released for the AMIGA.

The cover is pretty cool
