Mass Effect

Post by Strider77 »

Anyone else playing this? It's quite awsome, this is where RPGs need to go. Conversations are interesting and fun instead of tedious button mashing to move forward.

The story and visuals are top notch, such a good game so far. Totally hooked.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

RPG elements are cool.

Shooting elements suck though. Especially that retarded vehicle you drive around. Bioware should've outsourced the shoot-out bits to Epic and the driving bits to Bungie.

I enjoy them quite a bit.... especially after beefing up my character. still way better then tons of tedius sit and wait menu driven crap from square. this is very fresh for a RPG....

QFT??

alot of folks don't see to realize when driving if you are holding the up close button (left trigger) you can press the right control stick and snipe from quite far.

Yeah seriously, people cannot whine about next-gen games on these forums.

I have heard that there are boobies in this game. Can you confirm this?

I'm only a couple of hours in, but enjoying it so far. Unless the combat becomes chronically unbalanced later on, I can't understand why people are complaining about it. Sure, it's no Call of Duty 4 in that regard, but it does seem to strike a balance between the effect skill and stats in combat so far.

My only complaints so far are the inconsistent frame-rate and the delay in loading the hi-res textures in some cutscenes.

is there a level upping system in this game? and how does the shooting bit fares compare with gears of war?

i'm not into western rpgs like oblivion and such and i never like any fps, any halo, half life etc. i'm more into japanese type rpg. but after purchasing xbox 360 i'm more open to western game, and i really enjoyed offline gears of war

I know a few people that easily got turned off from this game...it has a learning and patience curve. I am really liking it a lot so far though. I do have problems with the loading screen, and having to wait when you die. Also, the ships layout could've been done much better...if I want to talk to my squad members, why does it take me so damn long to run around the ship?

Just beat it and I can easily say this is one of my favorite RPGs. Last time I enjoyed an RPG was Planescape: Torment, and I enjoyed the hell out of the storyline in Mass Effect. Definitely worth the sixty bucks I paid for it. :)

Yeah, I beat this like, three times in a row when I first got it.

What I said earlier about the non-RPG elements became invalid once I leveled up a bit and got used to the game. I should know better.

But yes, brilliant game.

I haven't played it yet, but I've been looking to check it out. I had a question, though - a friend of mine was playing it on an SDTV and said that he couldn't read a good deal of the text as a result. Is there any truth to that?

probably going to borrow a 360 just for this. MDK2 is a great old bioware game, hard as hell i my book, easily up there with Shinobi PS2 and GodHand for difficulty.

Yeah MDK2 was one of the best games on the dreamcast, that stage with the bombs to defuse was a real bastard with the Doc.

One thing this game has proved (yet again) is how wank mainstream videogame press is (Dean Takahashi not knowing about leveling up and subsequent apology).

Great game though. Has it's faults but it is very fun and has an interesting story (for a game). The music too... has this Vangelis vibe that is to be commended IMO, rather than having the usual stock orchestral stuff we hear so much of lately.

Overall, I'm glad Bioware made a good game as after experiencing the forgettable Jade Empire, I was a bit worried about this game.

I decided to pick this up for my PC now that i got a new box built that has a video card that can actually render 3d.

anyone else get this game on PC? I think it looks great. ive got the patch and the expansion, and i've only had the game glitch on me twice now.

it's entertaining thus far, totally enjoying it and worth the pesos.

awesome game, loved it..... some flaws but the good overshadowed it. plus it gets down to business without having to run around talking to grandma to take dinner rolls to uncle who cares.... blah blah blah. 10 hours later finally getting to something interesting.

Enjoyed it a lot, even the STG elements. I wanted to go for a second run on a harder setting, but stopped 10 hours in.

i'm doing alot of these side quests instead of progressing the main story. i think after this one i'm on i'll get back to the main plot.

kinda good to just go do other things once and awhile tho. i can see how it gets a bit annoying to do that over time tho.

For some reason, i really don't like it.
And i absolutely hate the combat system.
Sure, it's no Call of Duty 4 in that regard...
It doesn't have to be! It's a RPG for fucks sake!
But thanks to that stupid combat system it plays like every other generic third person shooter on the system. It's really amazing how many games are marketed (is that the correct word?) as RPGs, when they are basically action games with a few traditional RPG elements. Too Human would be another example. Although i like that one. ^^
