To celebrate my recent purchase of the PCB, I'll set up this site.

My score will be up shortly.. in the meanwhile, I'm sure some of you have scores for this.. Mulletgeezer?

Is the 1P / 2P thingy now right? Or should they be separate tables?

Thanks for setting this one up MJR.

The 1 Player and 2 Player arcade versions don't really require separate tables, the scoring is the same. The restart points on the 1P version are the only main difference, so 1 table is fine.

There's a large bonus for the 2-ALL, something like 900,000 as far as I can remember. I can't believe that I died stupidly on the Last Boss on that 1,444,370 run, a few more seconds and it would have been in the region of 2.3mil :? .

I played both versions again a few months ago. One word of warning for anyone going for my score; "Don't underestimate the second half of Stage 2-1!"

Could we have a Genesis table? I figure on the Hard difficulty setting, with default ships (3). Not sure about autofire though. I didn't use it, but there is an option to turn it on.

If a table's doable, here's my score for it...

The Coop - 1,519,690 - Stage 6 - Hard (No autofire)

345'300 4-6

this game is damn hard.
It seems to me that by the end of 3rd area it is better to not use laser, as enemies just keep coming; miss one shot and you're doomed!

The arcade original isn't exactly easy. Agression is the best tactic for stages 3 and 5. The key points to learn are how to survive the four Blocks at the end of stage 4 and be extremely agressive on the large square block section of stage 5. I remember pumping in a fair few credits to learn that section in the arcade (I think its area 5-20  ).
The next bit to learn is how to use the mid-sized battleships on the last stage as cover. The final section of the last stage with its zig-zagging is very nasty - especially on the second loop! Just keep diagonal lasers on that section, don't be tempted to switch lasers around, concentrate on dodging.
Destroy the Last Boss by simply rushing over to the top right corner when it arrives and use up and down laser only. Beware the homing missiles for a couple of seconds and drill the back of the Last Boss from above.

I played the 1 player checkpoint board again this year. The way to survive and kill the four Stage 4 Blocks is to dodge in a circle starting from the middle moving straight up and back, then back to the middle and repeat. Its too tight to do tiny dodges in the dead centre of the screen ->Go up so that you are facing the blocks as they circle round the top and move back with them. With some practice they won't be as bad....but they will never let you breeze through! Concentrate hard on this Boss

One more hurdle to go MJR ->area 5-20 to 5-30. The only other hurdle to clear after that on the first loop is the final zig-zag section before the Last Boss.
The last section of loop 2-1 is a real pig too, if you're playing the 1 Player checkpoint PCB.

Very nice PlasmaBlood! Congratulations :D

Can you get your hands on the PCB or the MAME emulation? It would be good to transfer those MegaDrive HARD skills onto the arcade original on default.

my thoughts exactly. I completed 1st loop in megadrive version back at the day, and it was tough as nails, but PCB is humiliating (to me, at least).. but you should be able to give it a good fight.

I think I might have a go with this game again..

Well I play the actual PCB board, and 2P version was all I was able to get at the time, probably same with DEL.

But since I got x-arcade tankstick, I've been thinking about trying my hands on the 1P version with mame :)

PlasmaBlood - I just happened to put up my best run on a 2P board because that was the one in my local newsagent at the time. No other reason really. I could perhaps do the same on a 1P board, but it would be a little more difficult due to sections like the last area of ST2-1, where if you die, you get sent back to a nasty restart point. I encountered this problem on my 1P board when I played it a year or so ago.
Its a bit like dying on or before the Stage 9 Boss on Kyukyo Tiger (the Jap Twin Cobra with restart points), or dying on the battleship area on the third loop of Flying Shark. Can be very tricky to dig yourself out of these spots. You've literally got to choreograph your way out of these restart points.
You don't have to worry with the 2P version of Hellfire. Its exactly the same game, but if you die in these nasty spots you can bang on through with respawned lives.

Wow, the intense parts of this game are really nutty! It's diabolical! Wanna play this some more, but I reached stage 4. Sweet tunes! The mechs are scary in stage 4, and I got completely ran down when a bunch of those gradius-esque zub line formations swerve in from both sides. I panic and can't figure out what direction I want, lol.

Come on people, let's see some casual scores of this game! :D

Arcade (2P board)
Aquas - 305,800 - 4-6 - MAME (2P board)
STG Weekly!, 1cc's, twitch, XBL: DJ Aquazition

Have it set to 4-way diagonal laser for almost all of Stage 4. Stay up high in the middle of the screen for the volcanoes. You'll still have to be on your toes though and be racing round in small circles due to the gaps in the firepower.

Funny that, I always enjoyed playing lvl4 with Front / back fire excusively, while picking every possible speedup. But then again, I still haven't been able to beat the end of level boss with no deaths.

Hadn´t played it in a long time, but managed a quite good run... no miss up to the 3 orbs surrounded by rocks. But then lost all my ~10 lives there.
