I agree. You would not believe how hard it is to get work covering Shmups (even the recent 360 LIVE Arcade re-release), while people queue up to take review of some crap like a Harry Potter game off of me! I think an Every Extend Extra review was the closest thing I've done in the last year.

Still, if we want to keep this event casual and press free, I understand. I'd hate it to feel like there was some journalist sitting on a group of mates trying to have an easy going drink at the pub, if you get what I mean...

Okay then, lets throw out a tentative March 1st and 2nd 2008 date so that people have something they can work with. Ask around peeps, see if you can rope in some of the shmuppers who no longer hang around here that came down the last time, who might be interested.

Obviously this date is tentative and is subject to change. Also, for those new to meets, this date is just the time of the main portion of the meet, quite often there are a couple of days before and after these dates where people get together and hang out.

That's a really good idea. They're getting stricter though, you must all remember to bring a business VAT Number with you to present at the ATEI door. Just pick a company to represent (hopefully in the gaming industry or related) and print off their VAT No.
No suits necessary, although this year I think it'll help you get access to everything  .

It would be cool, but too difficult unfortunately. I'm talking for myself of course, but I think some guys will have the same issues (money/time) that I'll have in January!

Met up in Casino last night with DEL, he appeared over my shoulder just in time to see me balls up the last boss on Progear. :x

It was good fun though, he took me a through a 1-ALL on Ketsui and we talked a little about the meet and gaming in general.

Friday nights in Casino are pretty damn good, gonna be down there a lot more I think. 8)

Isn´t that show a week earlier than you mention?
Their official site say so anyway...

Anyway, if you´re certain you can get some of us some tickets, I am sure I can make it then AND early march. ;)

Seems like a real cool thing to visit.

Super Laydock - Its a big show and is worth a visit if you're into genres other than shoot'em ups (which you won't find there). Its still a good event to run alongside a London Meet nevertheless.

Yeah your right as i didnt bother checking the website just guessing from previous show visits. and yeah, acquiring x-amount ticket/passes are no problem at all.

Definitely gonna try to make the journey more regularly. :)
You're right. It's a nightmare. I can't imagine you can play the ultra mode with this stick, although I seem to be unable to activate the ultra mode on that cab despite having the correct code, which is probably a good thing as this can save me time and money playing the ultra mode with this ultra cramp stick.

Registering my interest :) Still very, very lame at the games but always up for paying a visit to watch the big boys tearing stuff up. Saw a few faces at one of the past ones but it was a very last-minute thing for me, so actually checking in advance this time should grant me some more time there. No risk of me being trapped at work on a weekend this time round either, hurrah.

I can probably make it whenever it is (unless I have any last minute work meetings).

Plasmo has already posted a topic about this on superplay.co.uk so I will try to make as many people aware of this as I can who expressed an interest from last time.

I'm there on March the 1st and 2nd.

I'm also going to the ATEI as press , so let me know if any of you get through the door and I'll see you there... (In fact, registering as press was a sinch - perhaps go for that)

Know what you mean about the Mushi stick - that whole cab infuriates me actually. I'm not even that tall and I have to stand with my legs turned in like Sid Viscous just to have a decent view of the screen. I'd love it if they moved it to a sit down. I might be there this Friday night, so say hello if you are too (I'll have a Sega bag, Skateboard, and some shit Taito Tattoos...)

Sid Viscious was in the UK punk band The Sex Pistols. He always played bass with his knees bent in, kind of like the Ramones guys, and thats how I'm forced to play Mushihimesama!

Tats are a whole sleaveof Rainbow Islands, Bubble Bobble and Newzealand Story stuff, not quite finished. I've often thought of how to get a full arm shmup tat, but bullet curtains are something that really needs to be moving to look good. Someday my right arm will get covered in shmupness though!

Anyway - I'm going dangerously off topic, so on with the London Meet discussion!

I think he's referring to the fact you misspelt Sid Vicious. [/off topic]

Might be down there this Friday.

Well that´s it... I am most certainly in for the ATEI, shmups or not it seems too cool to pass up on. ;)

PM coming your way Mills!

Once I get confirmation, I´ll book my flight and arrange a ho(s)tel...
Maybe there´s some more interest in this, as I am certain it´s not ALL shmups ppl care for here!?

I have to admit that a local player lending his Pink Sweets board for a couple of days would be easier than Icarus dropping it in.
Thanks for the preliminary offer :D

sven - The ATEI show previews all the machines going in UK arcades & other game locations. Nowadays that means large FPSs, driving games etc on free play. It also previous new fruits/slots and has a large casino section with an excellent German gratuities bar, usually serving hot dogs and fairly fine wines. That will be my default location.

I've just bought myself an Ibara board - so I'm happy to bring that as I live half hour away from Casino, unless that's already sorted?
