Thunder Force V, either for the Ps1 or Saturn, although I'm not sure if the scoring system is the same for both ports, but until someone disagrees, I'll keep all the scores in one table

...This is also my first time making a topic in the Hi-score thread so bear with me, folks.

There are pretty big differences with the scoring, so you might want have separate tables. Also, back in the old forums, I submitted scores using harder difficulties since they gave more points so it wasn't exactly playing on defaults, but it was accepted nonetheless.

PS1:

Ghegs - 423,552,041 - ALL - 3,2,1

That was done using Hard difficulty.

Oh, and the first post reads "Rules: like every other shmup, default settings, 1 continue."

...I'm sure you meant "0 continue, 1 credit".

P.W.N.E.D.
Normal Difficulty - Saturn Version
Icarus - 1,017,540,200 - ALL (No Miss) - Route 3-1-2

I'm sure that it was a double knockout, since the final boss' third form was drifting towards me while I was point-blank-Free-Ranging it, and when it blew up, I ended up with three full CRAWS...

In any case, it's taken me a whole week, and about twenty plus near perfect (but failed) credits before this happened. What a relief :)

Replay verified (on the tracker, Bittorrent client required as usual).

Just before I update my post:

Should I seperate the PSX and the Saturn tables apart?
If so, then to jp: was your score on Sat or PSX?

Icarus has compelled me to dig up my old score. I've been dethroned, and I may very well have to make Icarus pay dearly for it.

Normal - Saturn
alpha5099 - 763,310,280 - ALL! - 3-1-2

Are we making any distinction between the good and the bad ending? I believe the convention in the old thread was ALL by itself meant you had survived through the Guardian's Heart, and he got away. ALL! with the exclamation point showed that you had made him go kablooey. Whatever, it just might make sense to distinguish between the two clears.

If that is the case, then my score should read:

Code: Select all

1. Icarus - 1,017,540,200 - ALL! - Route 3-1-2
I'm almost tempted to give it another go and maybe try to push my score a bit higher. I made a few mistakes and mistimed a few 16x attempts in this score, perhaps I can go for a maximum 1.05bil.

NORMAL, PSX
254,371,920 - Route 3-1-2 - ST7

I would also like to note that the PSX version has the ability to change the ship color (and this would affect the stats of the ship depending on the color). Mind you that I went with the blue default... mainly because I couldn't get the code to work. :S

But if it's okay, maybe an extra field for ship type? There's Blue, Red, Purple, and Green. Blue is default.

I think everyone is using blue anyway, so until someone posts a score with a different ship color, then I will set a seperate table for it.

PSX Normal, Time Attack, Route 3-6-5-4-1-2-7, RVR-02B
297,010,600
Time: 06:29.78

For your information, Time Attack is split up as follows:

Time, Score, Route, Ship

Note that a really really good RVR-02 pilot (*cough*Icarus*cough*) will most likely get the fastest time.

Time always comes first before score, since this is a Time Attack after all. :o If two players are tied in time, then they are based on score. If they're tied on score as well, well... I dunno. :D

Fucking final boss. If I remembered the final boss' last form sword's lightning had attacked the entire screen (and I should have moved under his legs when he was charging it), this WOULD HAVE BEEN NO-MISS. FUCK.

That's really unlucky. The Demon Guardian is one of Technosoft's most awkward and difficult bosses to take down (the first being Hyper Duelist, the last boss of Hyper Duel). The key is coming into the final battle with three full CRAWs, and attacking at Range 1 with Whip (Overweaponed Free Range). A little trick I used was to use Whip in bursts during the second form, to try and charge up as close to three full CRAWs again for the last form.

Remember you can use Sword to destroy the Guardian's sword to generate another three free CRAWs. You need at least one, maybe one and a half CRAWs for this. Just watch out for that sword, as well as all the homing attacks. The Guardian likes to use almost unavoidable attacks on you during the third form :?

Also if the Guardian starts to move about the screen and changes the way it faces, quickly get around it and attack at Range 1. While it's floating around the screen, it tends not to attack you, letting you get in a few free hits.

After 126 plays, I finally 1cced this fine game for the first time since I got it (like, two years ago?) ...

PSX version, BLUE Gauntlet, NORMAL difficulty

Cabinet! - 401.894.241 - All! - Route 3-1-2

My time was 26min 07.74sec, if that is of any relevance.

Before I start the whole thing over again on Hard; what exactly is made harder? Are there additional enemies and/or boss attacks popping up?

Mwahahaha. I finally 1cced, no-missed the game! Same settings. 521,576,125. :)

Considering that the PSX version halved score values, this puts me at par with Icarus' score (though Icarus is probably better, mind you). :)

I've already done the math; if I consider the PSX values to be halved (before the bonuses which are the same), my score is still going to be lower than Icarus' mainly because:
a) missed out on a few x16 opportunities
b) did not get the extra life at 500,000,000 since near impossible for PSX unless you're the green ship

Question: You know the final boss' five blasts? Each blast can take out three shields apparently! I wonder why... well, no matter. I survived the rest of the way through, so there. :D

@Cabinet: Hard just has more enemy patterns and bullets.

Just another question :

How can I select the other RVRs? I know they are there, but never found out how to get them. Something about holding a button on the 2p controller while selecting the initial stage route... but it doesn´t seem to work. Can someone tell me what I got to do?

You're close, you have to HOLD one of the buttons on the 2p controller when you choose the initial stage route, the color of the button will correspond to the color of your ship i.e Square = purple button = purple ship and so on

Here's a rundown of the Perfect System's special RVRs and their stats:

Code: Select all

Aircraft RVR-01 RVR-01E RVR-01Hi RVR-01Ex
Button N/A Triangle Circle Square
Color Blue Green Red Purple
Attack 100% 37.5% 112.5% 175%
Speed 100% 100% 218.75% 37.5%
Scoring 1x 2x 1x 1x
Craw 3 3 3 2
Craw Recovery Speed 100% 100% 75% 150%
All RVRs useable in both regular mode and Time Attack. The Brigandine appears in regular mode only in stage 5, while you need to clear the regular mode at Normal difficulty to select it it in Time Attack.

Thanks for the help, but it doesn´t work for me... maybe it´s got something to do with the emulator I play it on (my PSX went good-bye some time ago, so I trashed it...).

I hold down a key assigned to the 2p controller´s buttons all the way while I select my route and release it as soon as the green loading screen comes up... is there a "trick" to this?

For some reason it only works on my PS2 (don't have a PSX). Not sure why. I'd actually have to try it again on ePSXe under different settings to see.

Perhaps I should use a different input plugin instead of the ePSXe internal one...

Oh, and there are additional enemies all over the place on hard difficulty; there´s a lot more entering the left side of the screen.
